Josh Allen and the Buffalo Bills registered a 2-0 clean sweep against AFC East rivals the New England Patriots in 2025. Despite that, the Patriots, led by quarterback Drake Maye, won the division for the first time since 2019, during the final days of Tom Brady.

The Bills lost to the Denver Broncos in the divisional playoff game. New England, on the other hand, defeated the Broncos to qualify for yet another Super Bowl.

Maye finished second, and Allen placed third in the NFL MVP voting. But the results were far from neck and neck. Maye received 23 first-place votes (361 total points), and Allen only got two first-place votes (91 total points). Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford was chosen as the league’s best player with 24 first-place votes and 336 total points.

Offensive tackle Dion Dawkins, in charge of protecting Allen on the field, had the best seat in the house to watch the season unfold. After the year ended, a TSA agent asked Dawkins whether Maye played better than Allen, considering the Patriots reached the Super Bowl.

Dawkins respects what Maye achieved last season, but in his eyes, Allen remains the superior quarterback.

I’m so bitter [for] anybody in my conference. Like, I was walking in the airport and one of the guys, like the TSA guys, and he was like, ‘What do you think about Drake Maye?’ I was like, ‘Good player.’ He was like, ‘He’s better than Josh [Allen], right?’ and I was like, ‘No’.

Dawkins played 957 snaps in 15 appearances for the Bills last year and committed a total of 10 holding/false start penalties. In 2024, he signed a three-year, $60.5 million contract extension.

Dion Dawkins never shies away from expressing his support for Josh Allen

The Bills drafted Dawkins and Allen one year apart. Both are valuable members of the team; hence, the Bills tied them down with long-term contracts.

Football fans saw a small glimpse of their camaraderie following the Bills’ divisional round exit at the hands of the Broncos. Allen had a mixed bag outing against the league’s best defense. He completed 64.1% of his passes for 283 yards, threw 3 touchdowns, but also conceded 2 interceptions. Denver’s defense recorded three sacks on Allen, forced the same number of fumbles, and had two losses of possession. Denver won by just three points.

After the game, Allen claimed that he let his teammates down. However, Dawkins came to his quarterback’s defense.

Man, he didn’t let us down… We love you [Josh Allen]. I hate to keep it short, but we love you, you know? We’re thankful for him.

Dawkins noted that Allen is a big reason the Bills went on a deep playoff run. In the regular season, Allen had 319 completions for 3668 yards, 25 touchdowns, and 10 interceptions. He further added 14 touchdowns on the ground.

Analyst names Josh Allen as the best quarterback in the NFL

Ahead of the 2026 schedule release, FOX Sports analyst/presenter Colin Cowherd revealed the names of the top three quarterbacks in the league. Unsurprisingly, Kansas City Chiefs signal-caller and three-time Super Bowl champion, Patrick Mahomes, made the list, but he isn’t Cowherd’s number one selection. That honor went to Allen.

Number one is Josh Allen. And you can say what you want about the GM. You can say what you want. They don’t have a Super Bowl. I’m not going to punish him. He’s won 70% of his games with a defensive head coach that most of you didn’t like. Seven straight years with 10-plus wins. I’m sorry, folks. He’s been better than [Patrick] Mahomes two straight years.

Cowherd said in a recent segment of FS1’s The Herd

As things stand, Mahomes and Allen are tied in head-to-head matchups. Both have five wins each, including the playoffs. Then again, Mahomes has the rings, and Allen has yet to win an AFC title game.
