Hardy was shot on the upper side of his leg in the early hours of Sunday, which the police suspected was due to a melee attack. He was quickly taken to a nearby hospital, where doctors removed the bullet.

The University of Missouri issued a statement,

Ahmad [Hardy] is deeply loved by his teammates, coaches, friends, family, and fans. We will continue to stand beside him and his family through this difficult time, offering our love, prayers, strength and support.

How did the Laurel Police manage to catch the suspect?

As per the KSHB41 report, the Laurel police used security video to identify Harris as a suspect in Hardy’s shooting. They interviewed a witness who was present on the day of the incident before nabbing Harris.

Sgt. Davis said that he was baffled by Harris’ movements. Why would someone who lives in Mississippi drive nearly seven hours for a concert to shoot another man? And that man turned out to be a star college running back. Davis confirmed that it’s an open case and more arrests could be made in the coming days. Hardy is also from Mississippi (Oma).

Missouri coach shares his vision for Ahmad Hardy

Hardy returned to the Tigers’ facility on Wednesday, a day before the police took Harris into custody. Head coach Eli Drinkwitz sounded relieved when reporters asked him about Hardy’s condition and his chances of starting for the Tigers in 2026.

We’ll take it day by day. He will be back healthy. You know, when you’re dealing with elite athletes, right, getting back healthy and getting back to elite status is a little bit tricky in these situations. There is an opportunity he could be back this year. There is an opportunity he couldn’t be back this year. We won’t know those answers for a few weeks.
