Backlash 2026 in Tampa saw Iyo Sky and Asuka go to war inside the ring, and ever since the match, several wrestlers have shared heartfelt messages for the Japanese icon. Many fans even began to wonder if the ‘Empress of Tomorrow’ was preparing to retire. With legends like Goldberg, John Cena, and AJ Styles already stepping away from their illustrious careers, fans were not ready to see another legendary name say goodbye to the industry.

Over the past few months, Asuka had been locked in a heated rivalry with Sky, and many expected the two to clash at WrestleMania 42. Although that showdown never happened on the grand stage, the duo delivered an instant classic at Backlash instead.

On the following episode of RAW, Asuka appeared to pass the torch to Iyo, further fueling speculation that her in-ring career might be coming to an end. However, the Empress of Tomorrow has now addressed the rumors herself, finally clearing the air during a recent video uploaded to her official YouTube channel, KanaChanTV.

Asuka’s reason for walking away from WWE is deeply personal

A true veteran of the industry, Asuka has spent more than a decade in WWE, building on an already legendary career in women’s wrestling before arriving in the company. During her recent video, the former Royal Rumble winner reflected on the demanding schedule she endured in the weeks leading up to Backlash, revealing that things have finally started to slow down for her since the match.

Asuka also addressed the growing speculation surrounding her future in WWE, describing the situation as a deeply personal matter. She said, “The truth is, it was a personal matter. I reached out to WWE, and we talked it through”.

‘The Empress of Tomorrow’ firmly shut down any doubts about her in-ring ability, making it clear that she still believes she can perform at the very highest level despite her years of experience and time in the business. “But let’s be clear — as you all know from watching my matches, I can still GO. I am still at the top of my game!” said Asuka.

She also admitted that her long-standing presence on WWE television may have caused fans to overlook just how important she has been to the women’s division over the years. “And because it became such a part of your daily routine, I think my presence there just became something everyone took for granted”.

Calling herself a designer in addition to being a professional wrestler, Asuka teased that fans may still see her appear at any moment, especially since she remains under contract with WWE. “..don’t forget — I am still officially with WWE. So there’s a chance I might just pop up in front of you when you least expect it!”, said Asuka.

Asuka also talked about her long lasting WWE legacy and how there might be no one else who could pull off the achievements she has over the years. She stated, “I don’t think anyone will ever climb to the top non-stop, grabbing every title, and accolade along the way, the way I did. And because I’m a true pioneer, there will never be another Asuka”.

While her appearances in WWE may become increasingly rare moving forward, Asuka hopes fans will truly appreciate every moment they get to see her. “So from here on out, if you ever catch a glimpse of me, you better cherish it. Because it’s going to be rare”, said Asuka.

Even with a possible part-time schedule ahead, the Empress of Tomorrow reassured fans that she still plans to stay closely connected with them through her online platforms. “My YouTube channel and social media are staying active to stay connected with you guys!” she added.
