This week, the PGA Tour action will take place from the Muirfield Village Golf Club as the course will host the Memorial Tournament. Ahead of this event, Jack Nicklaus opposed the current PGA Tour schedule.
The 18-time major champion will serve as the host of this signature event. As a part of his duties as the host, “The Golden Bear” spoke with the reporters in the pre-tournament press conference.
During this, the veteran took a stand against the “bunched” schedule of the tour. In his conversation, he expressed that too many events will become a problem for the PGA Tour in the future and mentioned that he will have a word with CEO Brian Rolapp and Commissioner Jay Monahan.
I’m not exactly in favor of what they’re doing right now. I want to sit down with Brian and Jay and have that conversation. I mean, I hate to see tournaments bunched too much together with too many big tournaments too close together. That’s a problem, I think. And I think that’s going to be a problem for the Tour in the future.

At the moment, the PGA Tour has 45 official tournaments, including the Fall events this year. In this, there are several signature events lined up with major events, which makes it difficult for the players.
In February, two signature events in the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am and the Genesis Invitational (hosted by Tiger Woods) took place in successive weeks. This is followed by the Cognizant Classic.
In March, the Arnold Palmer Invitational (another signature event) is followed by The Players Championship. Just after the Masters Tournament at Augusta National, the RBC Heritage is held.
There were 2 successive signature events in May as well this year. Before the PGA Championship, the players competed in the Cadillac Championship and the Truist Championship.
Following the Memorial Tournament this week, the tour will fly north of the American border and host the RBC Canadian Open in Canada. While this is not a signature event, this will be followed by the U.S. Open at Shinnecock Hills Golf Club in New York.
According to Nicklaus, several tournaments have been squeezed in by the Tour. He believes that it will become hard for the stars in the future if this goes on.

Jack Nicklaus reveals one thing Rory McIlroy still has left in his resume despite the Masters triumph
In 2025, Rory McIlroy finally got his hands on the green jacket as he won the Masters Tournament. This year, he joined a rare company and repeated as the Masters Tournament champion. While the golfer has completed the career grand slam, Jack Nicklaus revealed one thing he still needs on his resume.

Despite his longevity, McIlroy has never won the Memorial Tournament. The Murifield Village remains one place where the former World No.1 has not tasted success. Last year, he drew backlash from the fans after skipping the event.
Nicklaus, who has extended his support to McIlroy over the years, wants him to win this event.
Now he’s only got one thing left on his resume that he really needs to have and that’s to win here. So you tell him that he’s got to do that.

This week, McIlroy will be making his first start since the PGA Championship. The Northern Irish star finished T7 in the second major of the year following his triumph at the Masters.
He has been paired up with Justin Thomas. Meanwhile, World No.1 Scottie Scheffler will be hoping to complete a three-peat of this event, having won the tournament in 2024 and 2025.
