Sports are supposed to give fans something to cheer about. But when a fan tries to take too much advantage of it, they end up doing things that may raise concerns. Victor Wembanyama found out about it in Game 1 of the NBA Finals.
The Frenchman and his San Antonio Spurs were already tired after their seven-game-long battle against the defending champion Oklahoma City Thunder.
They needed to wrap up this game early, as the well-rested New York Knicks are known to stage late comebacks. In the midst of that close effort, a fan ran onto the court.
He went straight to where Wembanyama was standing, and tried to record a video and take a selfie. The Spurs center stood there, bemused by the entire situation, as security reached and got a hold of the fan.
The fan did help the Spurs, as the very moment he ran onto the court, Knicks guard Mikal Bridges stole the ball from Spurs rookie Dylan Harper.
The person who ran onto the court update from an NBA spokesman:

“The individual who entered the court area during Game 1 of The Finals was arrested & will be banned for life from all NBA arenas. A second individual will also receive a lifetime ban for his role in the incident.”
However, the league has decided that such an act is not allowed, and they proceeded to ban the said fan and another who was involved in the incident for life. The person who ran onto the court during Game 1’s loss has been arrested and charged. Moreover, the two will not be able to attend any NBA game forever.
Fans laud NBA for taking stern action against Victor Wembanyama selfie runner
When the incident played out in Game 1, basketball fans were furious at this Spurs fan. They felt he was hampering proceedings just to get his two minutes of fame with a video of himself and Victor Wembanyama.
Now that the league has taken a stand and banned him and his accomplice for life, fans felt it was justice well served. Check out examples of those reactions below.
Young people do stupid things. Remember when streaking was a thing.

That’s such a dumb way to throw your life away for a quick moment, honestly. Actions have consequences, and a lifetime ban feels harsh but kinda expected here.

That idiot was no fan. He was more interested in getting views. I hope they make him pay to the point of it hurting him in his wallet.

Lifetime ban for a selfie is generational unemployment behavior

Bro risked everything for 0.2 seconds of clout and a blurry selfie 💀

And rightly so! Another tik tok stunt! That was a dangerous move for a selfie. I’m sure he dared his followers that he would do it. Now, he’s banned at all @NBA games & venues and his idiot friend is too. That’ll teach them. 🤡

The Spurs fan might be able to build off this and create a career for himself. Many have done so successfully in the past. But it is unlikely to continue, as the NBA just issued a major warning to anyone thinking of doing something like this in the future.
The league hunted down and handed over those who threw green NSFW toys onto WNBA courts last year to law enforcement. It is not difficult for them to do so to anyone who disrupts a game in the future. Thankfully, for the Spurs, Wembanyama did not move an inch during this incident.
NBA investigating Spurs fans for altercation with Jalen Brunson
The San Antonio Spurs fan who ran onto the court to get a selfie with Victor Wembanyama is not the only one who has come to the attention of the NBA.

After the game, it was evident that referee Scott Foster was trying to stop Jalen Brunson from going after two fans seated courtside. As per Chris Haynes, the two fans directed questionable words toward the Knicks superstar after he led his team to a Game 1 win.
NBA is looking into two courtside fans who allegedly directed vulgar profane “flopping” remarks towards Knicks star Jalen Brunson late in Game 1 of Finals. Brunson met with official Scott Foster after the game to address the fans’ behavior to which the remarks continued.
Chris Haynes revealed
The fans in question were wearing the unmistakable Spurs orange t-shirts. If the league finds them to have crossed the line, expect them to also face a lengthy suspension.

Last year, Tyrese Haliburton‘s father was banned after he taunted Giannis Antetokounmpo. Eventually, it was overturned after he apologized. But in this instance, the NBA might not be so lenient and could ban those fans for life.
