AJ Brown didn’t leave the Philadelphia Eagles on the best of terms. His latest confession will not help him win back a few fans as well.

Brown wanted out of the team as his relationship with quarterback Jalen Hurts slowly deteriorated. Sure, the Eagles won consecutive NFC East titles, a conference championship, and a Super Bowl, but the offense gradually went stale.

Philly acted by making a change at the offensive coordinator position, bringing in former NFL quarterback and Packers QB coach Sean Mannion as the new play-caller. Regardless, Brown eyed a move to the New England Patriots so that he could play for Mike Vrabel once again.

General Manager Howie Roseman waited for the June 4 deadline. After 4 p.m., the All-Pro wideout was traded to the AFC East franchise.

After his move, Brown sat down with Maria Taylor on the ‘7 PM in Brooklyn’ podcast. He confessed that he had leaked some of the stories to ensure the trade went through and felt he had the right to do so.

It was done purposely to give us a push. I knew that if I say something in the media, it’s gonna propel us to work hard. If you say what you need to say in the media – which I won’t do that anymore. – it gives everything legs.

AJ Brown’s confession didn’t sit well with fans on social media

Brown’s blunt response caught Twitter users off guard. Many were unhappy with the way he acted last year, demanding the ball all the time.

In retired Eagles center Jason Kelce’s words, “How hard is it to play with a player that’s not giving full effort? It’s incredibly frustrating.” That’s just the tip of the iceberg. By diving deeper, one can witness that Brown and Hurts had grown apart. Even if he stayed around, it’s unlikely they would have rediscovered the same telepathic connection they once had.

Taking that into account, a trade seemed like the best solution for both parties. Brown got what he wanted, playing for the team that he grew up supporting, and the Eagles no longer have to pay him $33 million (they still have to absorb approximately $16.4 million in dead money against their 2026 salary cap).

Now that he’s no longer an Eagle, he should have just kept the skeletons buried in the closet. It only paints him in a bad light.

Jason Kelce shares his opinion about the AJ Brown trade

In the recent episode of the New Heights podcast, Kelce shared his honest opinion on why Brown and Hurts could no longer connect the way they once did.

It only started happening once teams got a read on them. They didn’t adjust well. Whatever the reason, there are a litany of factors that could have caused the Eagles’ offense to decline over the last three years. That’s why this has happened.

Kelce believes Brown could have a great year in New England. Moreover, he’s excited to see DeVonta Smith as WR1 for the first time in Philly and highly rated rookie Makai Lemon in action. The Eagles also brought in former Packer Dontayvion Wicks via trade and signed him to a one-year, $12.5 million contract extension.
