LIV Golf’s future remains uncertain at the moment following the withdrawal of the Public Investment Fund (PIF). On Tuesday, CEO Scott O’Neil sidestepped a question regarding the remaining events of the events and failed to reassure people.

LIV Golf, which was founded in 2021, is going through turmoil. After the 2026 Masters Tournament, reports emerged that the PIF was cutting off their financial support. The sovereign wealth fund of Saudi Arabia has reportedly invested over $5 billion in the league.

This tour was launched as a direct rival to the PGA Tour. Founded by 2-time major champion Greg Norman and PIF Governor Yasir Al-Rummayan, the breakaway league saw several marquee names from the PGA Tour leave them.

While the PIF is reported to support the league until the end of the season, a recent report from Front Office Sports has raised concerns again. According to them, an LIV Golf executive expressed that every tournament from now on was on the fence.

This past week, LIV Golf held the Andalucia event in Valderrama in Spain. Before this, they were playing in South Korea in the LIV Golf Korea event. The league was originally supposed to play the LIV Golf Louisiana event in New Orleans later this month.

However, this event was postponed in late April. The league cited the weather conditions and the upcoming FIFA World Cup as a reason for this development. As a result of this, there is a huge gap until the next scheduled LIV Golf event.

Amidst this, Scott O’Neil appeared in an interview with Scott Wapner of CNBC. During this, the LIV Golf CEO was asked whether he could guarantee that the remaining events would take place this year.

Instead of directly confirming it, the American international dodged the question. He claimed that he can guarantee a huge return if they invest in the business.

What I can guarantee is a heck of a return if you come invest in this business.

Scott O’Neil said on CNBC

LIV’s next event is scheduled to take place at the JCB Golf and Country Club in the United Kingdom from July 23rd. This event will thus be played after the U.S. Open and the Open Championship.

After that, they are scheduled to play at the Trump National Golf Club Bedminster in New York, at The Club at Chatham Hills in Indianapolis, and the Team Championship at The Cardinal at Saint John’s in Michigan in August. It also remains to be seen when the postponed Louisiana event will be played.

Scott O’Neil and others are preparing a huge makeover of LIV Golf

There is no denying the fact that there are some dark clouds over LIV’s future. Some are concerned that the league could fold after the 2026 season. While what will happen is unknown at the moment, Scott O’Neil and the others have started planning a huge potential makeover of the league.

According to reports, the league have come up with a ‘LIV 2.0‘ plan. The breakaway tour is known for its team format. Though it has received some criticism in the past, they are not planning to let this go.

The league’s next structure will focus more on the team aspect of the game. They are reportedly planning to play 5 “team majors” in countries where they have achieved huge success. In the past, the LIV Golf Adelaide event in Australia and the LIV Golf South Africa event have drawn massive crowds.

Apart from these, there will be 5 “team signature” events. Like the signature events on the PGA Tour, these events will be played across the United States.

They are also planning to host 8-10 national opens. This could help the players earn more Official World Golf Rankings (OWGR) points after they finally started earning them this year.

The prize money could decrease a bit without the PIF funding them. More clarity regarding this will come in due time. For now, some of their stars are preparing for the third major event of the year, the U.S. Open at Shinnecock Hills.
