The age-old rivalry between the Chicago Bears and the Green Bay Packers reignited last year, with the Bears quarterback Caleb Williams at the center of it. Williams led the Bears to two wins against the Packers, including a victory in the playoffs.
Even though neither team qualified for the Super Bowl, Bears fans are excited about the future of their team. Chicago not only boasts Williams but also has other young players like Rome Odunze, Luther Burden III, Colston Loveland, and running back Kyle Monangai.
The Packers have also made waves ever since Jordan Love took over as the starting quarterback. To solidify the defense, they traded for star pass rusher Micah Parsons from Dallas. Parsons racked up 12.5 sacks in just 14 games. However, a devastating ACL injury ended his season early. He was absent from the Packers’ big post-season clash against the Bears.
Soldier Field in Chicago bore witness to a proper rivalry game. Williams threw two touchdowns and two interceptions while Love had four TDs. It came down to which kicker had better accuracy. Bear Cairo Santos converted all three of his field goals while his opposite number, Brandon McManus, missed both of his chances.
Williams’ 25-yard touchdown pass to DJ Moore sealed a historic 31-27 victory (the Bears’ first postseason win since 2010).
In the game, Williams threw a brilliant pass reminiscent of Michael Jordan’s NBA insignia that later EA recreated for its Madden 27 cover photo.
Later, in an interview, the NFL asked several players, including Parsons, to predict who would top the best 100 player list. Instead of directly naming anyone, the All-Pro edge said “Iceman.” Due to his cool and calm persona and the striking TD celebration, fans began calling Williams the “Iceman.”

It’s clever of Parsons. He avoided praising a rival player, but at the same time hinted that he believes Williams is the best player in the league.
Williams reacted to Parsons’ statement.
It’s good jokes. Obviously, we’re football players on opposite teams, so it’s a little rivalry. Nothing taken to heart. He said he’s fire and I’m ice, so let’s see which one holds over.

A reporter asked the former first overall pick if he’d ever vote for a Packers player as his favorite.
Probably not. But that’s on my side of how I do things. But obviously he’s a phenomenal player.

Williams led the Bears in the divisional round against the Los Angeles Rams. The game went into overtime as the teams remained tied at 17-17 after four quarters. Rams’ Harrison Mevis’ field goal handed LA the win. Williams threw for 257 yards, 2 touchdowns, and 3 interceptions.
Williams finished his second year in the NFL with 330 completions for 3942 yards, 27 touchdowns, and 7 interceptions. He had the most game-winning drives in the regular season.
Did Caleb Williams grow up supporting the Packers?
Williams hails from Washington DC. After graduating from high school, he committed to the University of Oklahoma, where he played for the Sooners for one year before transferring to USC in 2022. AP awarded him the Heisman Trophy for scoring 52 total touchdowns as opposed to 5 picks.

That same year, he posted several tweets about the Packers. To put it more bluntly, he’s an Aaron Rodgers fan and excited to see the four-time league MVP stick around in Green Bay. It was Rodgers’ final year with the Packers before moving to the Big Apple.
Williams’s fondness for the Packers ended with Rodgers joining the New York Jets. Right now, he detests the Packers and their fanbase. In an interview, he called the Packers fans the worst in the league.
After the game, after we won at Lambeau — 1-0 at Lambeau [Field] — we tried to do the Lambeau Leap, tried to jump into the crowd where our fans were. Packers fans] just started throwing everything at you, push you off. The Lambeau Leap, it’s a real leap. It’s not a little baby jump, you actually have to high jump, basically. And they’re pushing you, pushing your face.

Williams’ allegiance lies with the Bears. He aims to become the first Bears quarterback to throw 4000 passing yards while keeping a 70% completion rate. Those are some steep ambitions. For example, Rodgers only ever managed to meet both conditions in the same season just once (in 2020). That year, he bagged the best player title.
