Phil Mickelson landed in hot water on Thursday following a shocking report from Golf Digest. The outlet revealed that the 6-time major champion had been ousted from a San Diego Golf Club following allegations of misconduct with a female employee.
Mickelson, a San Diego native, had been a member of The Farms Golf Club outside San Diego for a long time. The veteran has played and practiced at this course for decades.
According to Golf Digest, a female club employee alleged that Mickelson made unwanted physical contact with her. This incident is said to have taken place earlier this spring.
As per the employee, who remains unnamed to protect her privacy, claimed that the former PGA Tour star made nonconsensual and inappropriate contact. When the golfer returned to the course, she would inform the supervisors about this.
The club officials took this allegation seriously and started an investigation. During this, they located Mickelson mid-round. Upon confrontation in the course, the “Lefty” was asked to leave the area before he could complete his round.
Following a staff member report of member misconduct, the Club provided immediate and ongoing support to the staff member, conducted a thorough independent investigation of the incident and took decisive action. This individual is no longer a member of The Farms Golf Club.

This development comes at a time when Mickelson has been away from the golf course this year. He withdrew from the first few LIV Golf events while citing a personal family health matter.
Though he returned for one event, he then went on a break again. The 55-year-old also missed the Masters Tournament and the PGA Championship. As for the upcoming U.S. Open, his 5-year exemption from winning the PGA Championship in 2021 was over.
The U.S. Open is one event that he has not won in his career. With 6 runners-up finishes in this event, the golfer has remained one short of completing the career grand slam.

This development is now another dark chapter in the career of Mickelson. According to sports bettor Billy Walters, the 45-time PGA Tour winner had previously wagered over $1 billion in sports.
The golfer also became a controversial figure in the sport following his support for LIV Golf. He was one of the central figures in the start of the breakaway tour. This came just a few months after he lost several major sponsorships while calling the Saudis “scary motherf***ers.“ It now remains to be seen how this incident impacts his career.
