AJ Brown played his best football and won a Super Bowl ring with the Philadelphia Eagles. But was he truly happy? His recent statement paints a clear picture.
Brown played four seasons with the Eagles. He won a couple of NFC titles, went to the Super Bowl twice, and won a ring. In 62 games, Brown accumulated 339 catches for 5,034 yards and scored 32 touchdowns.
Any receiver in Brown’s shoes would be happy with those numbers. Brown is different. He isn’t satisfied easily. For example, right after winning the Super Bowl, the Pro Bowl receiver said the feeling of being a champion lasted for just a couple of days. He wants the satisfaction of going to work every day, which he missed in his final couple of years in Philly.
The 28-year-old forced a trade to the New England Patriots—a team he grew up supporting. To make the deal even sweeter, he is surrounded by familiar faces from his Tennessee Titans days.
Do I feel at home? Yeah, I’m surrounded by a lot of Tennessee coaches and a couple Tennessee players, so walking in the building feels good.

The Titans drafted Brown in the second round of the 2019 draft. Mike Vrabel coached the Titans team back then and is currently the coach of the Patriots. Vrabel also brought with him several former Titans support and athletic training staff members, including offensive coordinator Todd Downing, who is now the wide receivers coach in New England.
Being around Coach Vrabel and other people I know, it feels great.

Brown played three seasons with the Titans. He caught 185 passes for 2,995 yards and has scored 26 touchdowns in 43 games. Ahead of the 2022 season, the Titans traded him to the Eagles in exchange for the 18th overall pick and a third-round pick.
AJ Brown shares his honest opinion on Drake Maye
Brown is a bona fide number one who demands the ball nearly every snap. In his first two years playing with Jalen Hurts, Brown caught 88 and 106 passes and exceeded 1450 yards on both occasions. Those numbers declined steeply during the final two years, 67 and 78 catches.

In New England, Brown will receive passes from third-year signal caller Drake Maye, who threw 492 passes with an accuracy of 72% in 2025. Brown’s been training with Maye since the trade and has a fair idea of his strengths.
The talent speaks for itself. He [Drake Maye] can make any throw. What’s more impressive to me is that he knows what he’s doing. To be that young and to understand the defense, to understand every little check, the hots, the blitz, all those things so young and so fast, is very impressive. I really admire that. He knows what he’s talking about. He demands [that] everybody else know as well. He’s a true leader of men. It’s crazy to see at a young age.

Maye became the first Patriots quarterback since Tom Brady to throw more than 4000 yards, 30 touchdowns, and win 14 games in a single season. He finished as a runner-up in the league MVP race, behind Los Angeles Rams QB Matthew Stafford.
But that’s not even his best achievement. Maye delivered an AFC Championship victory and led the Patriots to their first Super Bowl appearance since 2018.
The Patriots are hoping Maye can establish a similar connection with Brown as he had with Stefon Diggs. Diggs caught 85 passes for 1013 yards and scored 4 touchdowns in his solitary season in Boston.
