The San Antonio Spurs are down 1-3 to the New York Knicks, and many believe the way Victor Wembanyama and his teammates played in Game 4 has ended hopes of a balanced series.

Just like they did in Games 1 and 2, the Western Conference champions jumped out of the gates and built a sizeable lead in the first half.

Then, in the second, they did not change their strategy, thinking on the lines of ‘If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.’ But what they did not realize was that the Knicks fixed their broken first-half strategy and went after the Spurs with a new one.

In the first two wins at Frost Bank Center, it was Karl-Anthony Towns using his physicality and quick feet to take advantage of Wembanyama and his teammates’ fatigue.

In Game 4, they went with a different tactic, this time to bring in more speed on the perimeter, and it worked wonderfully for the home team as they staged what would become the greatest comeback in NBA Finals history.

Such a rally and win in front of their passionate fans will give the Knicks all the motivation to finish the job in the next game. At the same time, it must have also deflated the Spurs’ mindset.

Everybody knows we’re gonna do it… We need to isolate that one game and take it one game at a time.

Victor Wembanyama said

This was the Frenchman’s response when asked whether the Spurs have a better understanding of themselves after that 29-point drubbing. Victor Wembanyama made it clear that he and his team believe they can still win it all.

Victor Wembanyama and Spurs do not regret losing multiple games by single digits

Even though he and his teammates want to be motivated to win it all, reporters could not stop themselves from asking whether the Spurs have any regrets about losing two games by a point each.

We’re over it. It’s the Playoffs. There’s no time to regret things for too long.

Victor Wembanyama replied

The 7’4″ center agreed that Game 4 was the hardest to get over, as the manner in which they lost was nothing but a shock. But at the same time, he and teammates do not have the luxury of regretting over lost games.

This is the playoffs, and they have to get over the losses and move on to the next target. It seems Victor Wembanyama and his teammates are trying to use this mindset to wipe the slate clean before attempting a series comeback in Game 5.

However, these questions will never go away, especially if the San Antonio Spurs go on to lose this series despite being in winning positions twice.

Victor Wembanyama disregards the egg-throwing incident

Some analysts believe that New York Knicks fans throwing eggs at Victor Wembanyama was a disgraceful act. Others believe those instances should spark a fire within the 22-year-old ahead of Game 5.

I didn’t really think much of it… It’s ok… Doesn’t bother me.

Victor Wembanyama said

This was his answer when asked whether the egg-throwing incident, as well as the Knicks fans banging the windows of the Spurs’ bus, impacted him.

The reigning Defensive Player of the Year seems motivated and focused enough that those instances are not affecting him one bit. He replied in a manner that seemed he was not even aware.

He mentioned that he saw the egg-throwing video on social media. That could give an indication of his mindset, since he was the one who faced it in front of their hotel.
