This week, the 126th U.S. Open will take place at Shinnecock Hills in Southampton, New York. Ahead of the event, 2023 champion Wyndham Clark opened up about his “awful” outburst at the tournament last year at Oakmont.
Last year, the U.S. Open at Oakmont turned out to be a difficult test for players. The greens and the weather conditions did not help the players.
During the second round last year, the cutline was announced at a high 7-over par. Clark, who shot an opening round score of 74, needed a strong performance on Friday to keep his chances alive.
Unfortunately for him, he was unable to do that. Another round of 74 saw him finish the two rounds with a score of 8-over par. He thus missed the cut by 1 shot and was forced to take an early exit.
The golfer was clearly frustrated with this. The emotions got the better of him, and he ended up damaging the locker room at Oakmont. He was later suspended by the club for his actions.

A few days after the incident, the golfer did apologize for this. On Monday, he took part in the pre-tournament press conference for the 2026 U.S. Open. In this, he opened up about this and expressed that he deeply regretted his actions.
That was a really challenging time and something I’ve deeply regretted and feel awful that I did that. But there were so many good lessons in that that really taught me a bunch. I’ve really come a long way, and I’m excited for this year’s Open for some redemption.

Clark is one of the former major champions who will be teeing off this week. He captured his 1st and to date only major title in 2023 when he edged out Rory McIlroy at the U.S. Open and finished 1 shot ahead of him.
Wyndham Clark trolled Canadian fans with a Jack Hughes jersey at RBC Canadian Open
Last week, Wyndham Clark trolled some Canadians fans. At the RBC Canadian Open in Toronto, the American international would don a jersey of Jack Hughes during the third round and riled up some of the supporters present at the course.

As he walked up to “The Rink“, the World No.34 wore a Jack Hughes USA-themed jersey. What followed next was massive boos from the crowd.
If you walk into the rink hole wearing a USA jersey, you better walk away with a birdie 😅

Hughes became a national hero in the United States following his golden goal against Canada. The New Jersey Devils star scored an overtime winner for his country against their rivals in the gold medal game at the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milan.
His goal saw the USA clinch a gold medal in men’s ice hockey for the first time since 1980. It also saw them complete a double as the U.S. women’s team also won a gold medal in ice hockey in overtime against Canada.
When asked about his reaction to wearing Hughes’ jersey, Clark expressed that he was expecting boos from the fans and that it was fun. He also added that he got that jersey from a fan.
I was doing it more to celebrate the USA’s win. It had nothing against Canada.
