Cam Schlittler put up a show once again on Friday. The New York Yankees pitcher vowed the fans with a career high 13 strikeout game against the Cincinnati Reds. Following his impressive performance, he earned some praise from New York Knicks star Josh Hart.

Schlittler has been the dominant force in the Yankees’ pitching rotation this year. With Max Fried injured and Gerrit Cole just returning to action, the youngster has taken up the burden on his shoulders.

On Friday, he threw 96 pitches in 6 innings and set a career high in strikeouts at 13. His previous best was 12 strikeouts, which he achieved in the do-or-die Game 3 of the American League Wild Card Series against the Boston Red Sox.

In the 6 innings he pitched against the Reds, he gave just 4 hits and did not concede a single run. As per Sarah Langs of MLB.com, he is now the youngest Yankees star to have at least 13 strikeouts in a game and not give up a single walk.

This strong showing from Schlittler helped the Yankees win 5-0 in the Bronx. After the game, Josh Hart gave him a shoutout. On X, the 2026 NBA Champion claimed that the pitcher was the Cy Young Award winner this year.

Josh Hart said regarding Cam Schlittler on X

Hart was recently present at Yankee Stadium. Alongside NBA Finals MVP Jalen Brunson, he threw out the ceremonial first pitch before the game against the Chicago White Sox.

The Yankees later shared a photo of Hart alongside Schlittler on X and joined him in praising the 25-year-old pitcher.

Schlittler also reacted to Hart’s tweet. While speaking with the reporters, he expressed that it was good to have his support.

That’s a good thing to hear. Josh is a great guy. Obviously, I talked to him after their first playoff game. I’m pumped for him and the city of New York, just being able to finish that off. It’s great to have that support.

The right-handed pitcher brought down his season ERA to 1.71 following this performance. This is the lowest among any pitcher in the American League.

Cam Schlittler wants to win the championship and does not care about statistics

Cam Schlittler made a strong case for the Cy Young Award with his 13-strikeout performance against the Cincinnati Reds on Friday. However, the player wants to win the championship and does not care about the statistics.

As per the stats by MLB.com, Schlittler’s 1.71 ERA among starting pitchers is only bettered by Milwaukee Brewers’ ace Jacob Misorowski. He recently stunned the MLB world with a 1-hit, 15-strikeout performance against the Philadelphia Phillies.

Schlittler’s 8-3 record is also the joint best alongside Misiorowski and the Phillies’ Christopher Sanchez. As for strikeouts, he is just behind Misiorowski (138), Sanchez (116), and Toronto Blue Jays star Dylan Cease (110) at 109 K’s.

Despite all of these numbers, all he wants to do is win the championship. Last season, he was the losing pitcher in Game 4 of the American League Division Series (ALDS), which saw the Yankees get eliminated from the playoffs.

The goal is to win a championship, so the statistics don’t really matter.

Cam Schlittler told the reporters

Speaking of the Cy Young Award, the last time a Yankees player won this honor was in 2023 when Gerrit Cole was named the best pitcher in the American League. He won this award unanimously after going 15-4 and having a 2.63 ERA and 223 strikeouts.

A total of 6 Yankees players have won this award in history. If Schlittler continues this dominant run, he would become a heavy favorite to take home this crown this season.
