The blockbuster move of Giannis Antetokounmpo to the Miami Heat has been completed. After nearly a year of reports and rumors surrounding Antetokounmpo, the Milwaukee Bucks finally traded away their franchise player.
It is a move that shows the Heat are looking to contend for the championship next season. While they did acquire Antetokounmpo, they had to give up on a number of assets and players. They traded away Tyler Herro, Kel’el Ware, Jaime Jaquez Jr., Kasparas Jakucionis, and three first-round picks.
LeBron James‘ longtime friend and agent, Rich Paul, believes the Heat will make several changes before the 2026-27 campaign gets underway.
This team could look totally different. There’s a lot of work to be done. The one good thing about Miami is, when you talk about back filling a roster with minimums, who don’t want to go to Miami on a minimum?

“Bobby Portis can really shoot…. One other thing you’re getting, you’re getting Pros. Giannis and Bobby Portis, people talk about ‘Heat Culture’, they don’t need it. These are adults going… https://t.co/2S6KAhZ1Ok pic.twitter.com/iDWTveM4jp
With Giannis Antetokounmpo and the Bucks looking to part ways for a while now, multiple clubs were in the race to acquire his services. However, the Greek superstar had been eyeing the Heat for a while.
The move to the Heat sees Antetokounmpo join forces with Bam Adebayo in the front court. The two stars were recently seen together at a WNBA game on Tuesday night. But with a number of players gone, Rich Paul believes that the Heat still have a long way to go before their roster is ready to compete next season.
The Heat will fill out a competitive roster around Bam Adebayo and Giannis Antetokounmpo
Along with Giannis Antetokounmpo, Bobby Portis Jr. was included in the trade to the Heat as well. With Antetokounmpo and Portis, the Heat have two players with a championship pedigree. They will be looking to surround the two-time MVP and Adebayo with shooters.

NBA insider Brian Windhorst believes the Heat will build a competitive roster around their two big men.
MIA is in position they got their prize. A top 5 player who is still in his prime. I think he has a lot left. I think they’ll be an elite defensive team instantaneously. But the Heat have done this before, Andy Elisburg, Pat Riley, Adam Simon, Erik Spoelstra, the development system. The same people that did it 15 years ago, I believe will do it again.

Brian Windhorst believes the Heat will once again fill out a competitive roster around Bam and Giannis, like they did in 2010-2014:

Antetokounmpo is currently 31 years old and is still very much in his prime. He has struggled with injuries in recent years, but he still remains one of the best two-way players in the league today. Hence, he will want a squad that can help him win a championship very soon.
Giannis Antetokounmpo and Bam Adebayo will be a dangerous duo
Bam Adebayo may not be the player Giannis Antetokounmpo is but he may be the perfect secondary option for the Heat. While the Heat were below par in the 2025-26 campaign, their brightest spark was when Adebayo scored 83 points against the Washington Wizards in March. He is coming off a 20+ points per game season just for the second time in his career.
Former All-Star Gilbert Arenas believes the two big men in the front court are going to be a dangerous duo.
I believe in Pat, when Pat gets a generational type of talent. He’s one with every single one he’s got. Giannis and Bam is going to be more dangerous than people think. People don’t understand how good Bam really is. He defers a lot for the betterment of the team. I like where Miami is right now. I think they’ll be favorites not this season, but the following season.

While Arenas has high hopes for Antetokounmpo and Adebayo doing well for the Heat, he believes they will be the favorites to win it all after one year. However, it remains to be seen what squad they build in the offseason this year.
