NASCAR is one of the most underrated motorsports championships in the world, as unlike Formula One, the elite stock car racing championship has a very limited presence in the international market. Trackhouse Racing’s Shane van Gisbergen, one the handful of non-USA born Superstars of the sport has recently addressed these topics.
Talking to the media about NASCAR exploring new markets, three times Supercars champion SVG pointed out that he loves the sport hosting races like last Sunday at San Diego Street Race. These experiments give people who never watches racing to experience it first hand and potentially become life long fans.
That’s why it’s cool going to new places and seeing new people. I think you introduce them to what the sport is like and hopefully we have some good races in the weeks after and it keeps them engaged. I think our sport is really awesome.
Shane van Gisbergen said on Saturday, ahead of Sonoma race.
Furthermore, Shane van Gisbergen explained the key factor that makes NASCAR standout from other racing series around the world. In the most championships, there are two or three drivers that will often win races. But in NASCAR more than 10 races will be in the fight consistently and there are more entertaining storylines to follow for the supporters.
As a motor sport, you don’t know who’s going to win, whereas you watch F1, there’s three guys who are going to win. I think our sport is really cool, even at a road course there’s 10 guys who can win. I think that’s really cool how many different storylines there are this week in our sport.

The Kiwi racer then turned his focus on the media, who plays one of the most significant roles in marketing the sport to the market. He highlighted that they have been doing a solid job so farm but can contribute more into attracting a new set of fans to the sport. NASCAR needs to get the top tier national media houses more involved in the sport to succeed in the US as well as rest of the world.
I think you guys (in the media) do a good job but we have to do a good job as well of keeping people interested and keeping the storylines coming and people coming towards our sport.
Shane van Gisbergen asserted.
Shane van Gisbergen beats Marcos Ambrose’s NASCAR record
On Saturday at Sonoma race way, SVG made history. He won the NASCAR O’Reilly Auto Parts Series race at the track with the No:9 Chevy and became the most successful foreign-born road-course racer in the second division.

The record was previously owned by Australian racer Marcos Ambrose, one of the best no-US racers ever in the sport before the Kiwi came to NASCAR. He has won five races rpm 77 starts, between 2008 and 2014. Four of the legends five wins were at Watkins Glen.
The Trackhouse Racing driver made history with just 39 starts, with the series having more road course events than in the past helping him to make a mark. He needs five more wins in the second division to become the all-time best ahead of ex-teammate AJ Allmendinger.
But he could become the second most successful road course racer ever on Sunday, as he now has seven RC wins, same as Chase Elliott. Tony Stewrat with eight wins and Jeff Gordan with nine wins are the only drivers ahead of him. It would be interesting to see how long it would take racer to make the record for himself.
