Mike Macdonald shared a previously unknown secret to his Super Bowl success with the Seattle Seahawks. He spoke with an individual who knows a thing or two about winning championships.
Macdonald took charge of the Seahawks in 2024. A year later, he signed Sam Darnold, a former first-round draft pick, as his starting quarterback. Together and rallied by one of the league’s best defenses, the Seahawks secured the club’s second Super Bowl victory by defeating the New England Patriots.
While taking a break from playing golf at the American Century Championship in Nevada, Macdonald joined Dan Patrick on his show to reveal an unknown detail about his Super Bowl success. Prior to the big game, Macdonald took advice from someone with experience in winning rings.
Probably can’t mention one guy that really helped us out that had some conflict of interest.
Mike Macdonald said
#Seahawks HC Mike Macdonald says there was one person he reached out to for advice before the Super Bowl vs. the Patriots who helped a lot, but he won't say who because there might be a conflict of interest.

It's not Bill Belichick. 😅

Macdonald quickly ruled out former Patriots head coach Bill Belichick.
Dave Portnoy points fingers at Tom Brady for helping Mike Macdonald and the Seahawks
2025-26 Super Bowl was also Mike Vrabel’s first Super Bowl appearance as a head coach, and quarterback Drake Maye’s first career appearance on the biggest stage. Even though bettors favoured the Seahawks to win it all, Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy backed his Patriots to lift the Lombardi Trophy for the seventh time since 2000.

Seattle crushed Portnoy’s dreams. Months later, Macdonald’s revelation dropped like a nuke on social media. Portnoy didn’t waste time pointing fingers at former Patriots QB and the Raiders minority owner Tom Brady.
If this doesn’t [expletive] you off as a Patriots fan, you are dead on this inside. I’m not going to say who they are saying gave a ton of advice to the Seahawks before the Super Bowl, but the guy has a statue in front of our stadium. What a joke.
Portnoy tweeted
However, Portnoy’s theory was quickly debunked by NFL insider Zach Gelb.
I reached out to Mike Macdonald to get clarification on his comments on the [Dan Patrick Show]. I asked if [Tom] Brady was the person with the “conflict of interest” that gave input to the Seahawks before the Super Bowl. Mike told me it wasn’t Brady that he was talking about in the interview.
Gelb replied to Portnoy’s tweet

The football world is waiting to hear Brady’s answer.
Potential buyers of the Seattle Seahawks
Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen bought the Seahawks in 1997 and prevented the club from leaving Seattle. After his passing in 2018, the ownership of the club transferred to his sister, Jody Allen.
Jody Allen admirably took care of the club. However, she put the club up for sale right after the Seahawks’ latest Super Bowl triumph. According to Front Office Sports, potential buyers are lining up to purchase the franchise.

Canadian billionaire Steve Apostolopoulos removed himself from consideration. Todd Boehly also was reportedly interested but is no longer in the mix.
