While most of the conversations around LeBron James have focused on the Golden State Warriors, the Philadelphia 76ers, and the Cleveland Cavaliers, Pat Riley and his Miami Heat continue to lurk on the outside.

At least that is what analysts, insiders, and many others believe, as the franchise is still not looked at as a complete team with which James can contend for a title.

Sure, the arrival of Giannis Antetokounmpo changed their title odds. But the number of pieces they gave up left the roster without the depth that is needed in the postseason.

Even his agent, Rich Paul, mentioned that the Heat are far from completely fixing their roster, which some felt was a message to the franchise that they needed to get their affairs in order.

However, when Antetokounmpo remarked during a live stream of how shocked he was to be pranked on the news of James heading to Cleveland, it gave another indication that maybe the Heat are in play.

Yeah, we landed the plane. Now there’s another one we have to land.

The moment ‘The Godfather’ said this, it went viral enough that mainstream media had to share and talk about it. That is because everyone felt it was an indication that the Miami Heat are possibly closer to bringing LeBron James back for another stint.

The President is not one to show his cards whenever he is in a tough negotiation. Therefore, many felt that he could have only said this if he was that sure of finishing the job and bringing the father of three to South Beach.

Pat Riley had discussions with LeBron James at the start of free agency

After that plane-landing comment, reporters had to get more out of Pat Riley. When Zachary Weinberger met up with the Heat President after the Giannis Antetokounmpo introductory press conference, he asked him if there was an update on the LeBron James situation.

To be transparent about it, we’ve had discussions over a week ago, maybe a week before that about it, but right now I think we’re like everybody else, we’re just waiting to see what he does.

Riley replied

This was the 81-year-old’s response, suggesting that he was on the phone with his former player immediately after James announced that he was leaving the Los Angeles Lakers.

Some may question the cookie controversy from the past, but James going up to hug Riley after the Lakers unveiled his statue proved that there was no bad blood between them.

However, the legendary coach almost poured water on any rumors that his team had a done deal with the four-time champion. In fact, he, just like the others, is waiting for James to announce his plans for next season.

Kendrick Perkins believes Miami has a shot at LeBron James

Pat Riley’s comments went viral enough that oddsmakers saw bets on the Heat landing LeBron James spike. In the meantime, the cast of NBA Today started talking about why the superstar could move there.

You’re moving from LA, where it’s nothing but sunshine and beautiful weather, you probably want to go to another place with sunshine and beautiful weather… He wants somebody to carry the weight to get you through an 82-game season, just to get you to the postseason. That is Giannis and Bam.

Kendrick Perkins said

The former center believes that this puzzle could come together once anyone dissects what moving to the Heat can provide. Playing at age 41, Perkins believes that James needs his teammates to carry most of the load in the regular season.

That is why, with Giannis Antetokounmpo and Bam Adebayo as the other two superstars, the four-time league MVP would find it easier to conserve his energy until the postseason.
