Sami Zayn hasn’t appeared on WWE television since tragically losing the Undisputed WWE Championship to a returning CM Punk on the 07/06 edition of Raw in Chicago. He did have an emotional outburst immediately upon walking back through that curtain. The clip made the rounds on social media for quite a while.

But as mentioned above, he’s yet to vent about it in detail, which could happen as early as this week’s SmackDown. As for those disappointed with WWE brushing Zayn aside from the world title picture heading into SummerSlam to make way for CM Punk vs. Cody Rhodes, there’s finally some hope.

While appearing as a guest on The Sal Licata Show, lead Raw commentator Michael Cole confirmed that a long-term story arc will be played out over Sami Zayn losing the WWE title in just 9 days. He urged the audience to remain patient and assured them that the story will reach its destination.

Michael Cole stated WWE does 52 weeks of live television every year and that often results in some storylines not progressing as rapidly as the fans would want them to. The legendary commentator affirmed that their audience can be critical about stuff and let their opinions be heard.

However, just as he said it, Cole believed that the people would enjoy the direction in which the Sami Zayn story is headed over the next couple of months. Is that Cole dropping an Easter egg regarding something that’s going to happen with Zayn in the not very distant future?

Could the highly acclaimed ‘Voice of WWE’ be hinting at Zayn winning this year’s Money in the Bank contract? The possibility of it happening has certainly gone up a notch. However, as Cole implored the fans in the aforementioned interview, let the story play out.

Where does Sami Zayn fit in on this year’s SummerSlam card?

Sami Zayn has his next assignment already set in stone, with the ‘Last Real Good Guy’ bracing up to take on CM Punk and Cody Rhodes in a tag team match this weekend at Saturday Night’s Main Event. But the man that’s been made to join forces with Zayn is Gunther, and the two couldn’t stand each other at all.

So that’s going to make for an interesting dynamic as to how Zayn and Gunther will fare against the duo of Punk and Rhodes.

The said match was made official by Nick Aldis upon reviewing Gunther‘s warning to include him in the WWE title picture at SummerSlam. Things went haywire once the SmackDown GM reaffirmed that Punk vs. Rhodes will stay intact. ‘The Career Killer’ eventually snapped and assaulted the SmackDown GM, which is likely leading to Aldis wrestling Gunther in his WWE debut match at SummerSlam.

This could all come to fruition during this week’s SmackDown with Adam Pearce set to serve as the acting general manager of SmackDown following Aldis’ beatdown. Now this begs the question of Sami Zayn’s role at the Biggest Party of the Summer. If Gunther is going to wrestle Nick Aldis in all likelihood and the WWE title match will see Punk defending the gold against Rhodes, what would Zayn be left with to do?

That’s where the Punk/Rhodes vs. Zayn/Gunther tag team showdown gets interesting. What if the former ‘Honorary Uce’ manages to pin Punk inside the world’s most famous arena?

It would then allow Sami Zayn to present a strong case for being added to Punk vs. Rhodes to make it a triple-threat match at SummerSlam. However, if that’s not in the cards and WWE intends on treating Punk and Rhodes as a marquee singles main event, Zayn would be the odd one out.
