Chad Gable is headed to SummerSlam after getting a big win on this week’s Raw. The former US Olympian won a Gauntlet match to emerge as the number one contender for Penta‘s Intercontinental Championship. They’re now set to wrestle for the gold at the Biggest Party of the Summer in Minnesota, which happens to be Gable’s home state.
The former American Made leader has sent a message to the champion just over two weeks before they clash. Gable posted a picture of Penta’s WWE debut match, which he had against Gable only and came out of it victorious. The Minnesota native also used the faceoff they had on this week’s Raw after Gable made Ethan Page tap out to the Ankle Lock.
Gable compared the two pictures and affirmed how things have changed since they first wrestled in January 2025. This time around, the ex-Alpha Academy leader isn’t fueled by rage and hate against Penta. Instead, he’s driven by respect, competition clarity, and a focused desire to win his first singles title in WWE.
The erstwhile El Grande Americano said he’s found the version of Chad Gable that he knew a long time ago, which he deemed the most dangerous. He also asked his fellow Minnesotans to brace up for his homecoming at SummerSlam. As for his rivalry with Penta, it has finally come full circle. It’s well established that Gable’s downward spiral began with his loss to the former AEW star.

The former Shorty G went rogue and decided to mock the Lucha Libre culture with his portrayal of the El Grande Americano. He stayed under the guise of that mask for over a year, and it just made him understand what those luchadores go through being themselves. Gable lost the mask to Ludwig Kaiser‘s version of the El Grande Americano and has since been on a redemption arc.

The 40-year-old made amends with every luchador he had talked smack about, starting with Penta’s brother Rey Fenix. The former one-half of the American Alpha then made it right with Rey Mysterio, who was immensely moved by the incredible Mask vs. Mask match Gable had with Kaiser.
The 2019 King of the Ring finalist was building momentum week by week, and it paid off with his latest gauntlet match win on Raw. He now has a shot at becoming the new Intercontinental Champion in front of his family and friends at the Biggest Party of the Summer. The fans are rooting for Gable to finally break his deadlock against Penta, and what better way to do so than taking the IC title off of him?
How is the Chad Gable redemption arc going?
Chad Gable is putting in the hard yards ahead of what could possibly be the best night of his career at SummerSlam. The rejuvenated star has been posting his workout sessions on social media, and he’s being assisted by some of the biggest names on the WWE roster in CM Punk and Seth Rollins. Gable worked out with both of them recently.

Looking at Gable’s career trajectory in WWE, he has come a long way since being relegated to the Shorty G character in 2019. He admitted in a 2024 interview with Chris Van Vliet that it was the lowest point in his career. It was something that the WWE creative came up with for him upon Gable constantly asking the office to give him opportunities to prove himself.

It may not have worked out, but his commitment to the character was pivotal to the WWE management getting to know that Chad Gable had grit and he was in for the long run.
The formation of his stable with Otis and later Akira Tozawa & Maxxine Dupri, known as the Alpha Academy, was his brainchild only. Gable failed to capture the Intercontinental Championship during that period, and he dumped his friends after getting frustrated.
Last month, he tried apologizing to every single one of them for treating them pathetically. However, Dupri, who’s now aligned herself with the Vision, stopped Gable from having it his way. The latter has yet to react to Dupri betraying Otis and Tozawa for the Vision.
Gable could, in the coming weeks, side with Otis and Tozawa to provide them with the backup they sorely need to combat Maxxine Dupri’s new associates.
