Jude Bellingham responded to England’s FIFA World Cup 2026 semifinal exit by sharing an emotional poem written by the team’s driver in Kansas, thanking supporters and urging the country to stay united after the defeat.

England’s World Cup campaign ended on Wednesday after Argentina came from behind to secure a 2-1 victory in the semifinal. Anthony Gordon gave England the lead in the 55th minute before Enzo Fernandez equalized with a long-range strike. Lautaro Martinez then scored the winner in stoppage time to send Argentina into the final.

A day after the loss, Bellingham posted an image of a poem titled The Lions Way on Instagram. The poem had been written by England’s team driver, Michael Chandler, during the tournament and reflected on the squad’s journey over the previous five weeks.

Was really struggling to find the right words for yesterday and the last few weeks, but this pretty much hits the nail on the head from our driver in Kansas. Thank you for the unbelievable support from back home and to those who spent their hard-earned money to travel to America and get behind us. Don’t let the unity and love we’ve seen in our country end with this campaign. When we’re together we can achieve big things… And we will! Love yous!

Bellingham was visibly emotional following the final whistle in Miami as England’s wait for a first men’s World Cup final since 1966 continued. The defeat also extended the team’s search for a major international trophy despite reaching another deep tournament run under Thomas Tuchel.

Jude Bellingham was also involved in heated post-match incidents during the FIFA World Cup

The Real Madrid midfielder was involved in multiple confrontations during and after England’s defeat. Following the final whistle, footage showed Jude Bellingham confronting a group of Argentina players before appearing to slap unused substitute Valentín Barco on the back of the head.

Teammates from both sides intervened as the exchange escalated. It remains unclear whether FIFA will take disciplinary action before England’s scheduled third-place match against France.

Earlier in the match, Bellingham also had an exchange with Lionel Messi. Speaking afterward, he downplayed the incident and said:

It was nothing bad. I’m sure everyone will do their thing and make it a big deal, but it was nothing big really. I thought there was a foul earlier, and he said, ‘What about the one on me?’ and I said, ‘You’re strong enough to take it’, you know what I mean. It was a privilege to play against him; it was nothing like that against him. I’m obviously on the losing side, which hurts a lot, but a privilege to line up against one of the best.

England are next scheduled to face France in the FIFA World Cup 2026 third-place playoff, while Argentina will meet Spain in the tournament final on July 19.
