Brandel Chamblee once again found himself under tremendous heat from golf fans on Friday. The Golf Channel analyst blasted Bryson DeChambeau after the LIV Golf star was handed a 2-shot penalty at The Open Championship.

DeChambeau fired a score of 67 in the opening round at The Open hosted at Royal Birkdale. He came into this event having missed the cut in the first 3 majors of the year.

On Friday, he seemed to have carded a round of 66 with 5 birdies and 1 bogey. When he ended the round, he was 1 shot behind leader Lucas Herbert, who shot a score of 62.

However, the R&A officials took DeChambeau back to the 5th hole. On the par-4 hole, the American had made his only bogey of the day.

Chief Referee Grant Moir and the tournament officials determined that the 2-time major champion had breached Rule 8.1 and improved his lie. The golfer did take some practice swings and walked back and forth to his ball lying in the thick.

They handed him a 2-shot penalty, taking his 2nd round score from 66 to 68 and turning his bogey into a triple bogey. He fell from solo 2nd to T5 and ended the day 3 shots behind Herbert.

This ruling from the R&A did not sit well with the fans. Many came forward and supported DeChambeau while taking a shot at the officials. However, not everyone was on the side of the golfer.

Brandel Chamblee, who has many times blasted DeChambeau, slammed him again. While discussing this with Paul McGinley with Rich Lerner, the former PGA Tour star claimed that it was a “clear violation” and labeled DeChambeau’s actions as “childish.”

This was such a clear violation. It is really hard to stomach the silliness that we have seen here from Bryson. You accept this like a man. … And just to underscore how childish it is of him, to say he doesn’t know if he’s going to play.

If DeChambeau can pull off the win from this position, it will likely go down as one of the finest major wins in recent years. His best finish in this event came in 2022 when he finished T8.

This was not the first time he had thrown a dig at DeChambeau regarding YouTube. Last year in September, he took issue with his YouTube popularity and called out the golfer for talking about it more than the Ryder Cup.

Speaking of his YouTube, DeChambeau has over 2.78 million subscribers and 281 videos.
