2020 NASCAR Cup Series champion Chase Elliott isn’t known for his bold statements, but recently he had made an observation that many in the community might agree with. This has to do with Cup Series race schedule and how the sports race a little too much on Sundays.
Talking in the Racin’ with the Boys podcast, the No:5 HMS driver was asked about one rule he wants to see changed and he responded by admitting he wants more Saturday night races in the Cup Schedule. His take is inspired from the fact that Bristol night race is arguably the best evet of the Next-Gen era.
One rule, boy, you want to get me in trouble. That’s really tough. Right now, I would lobby for more Saturday night races. It’s really simple and you know, it’s not necessarily a rule, but I think that our sport, especially at this time of the year, like I mentioned a second ago, unprompted, that the Saturday night race at Bristol in the Fall there was nothing any better than that.
Chase Elliott said ahead of North Wilkesboro weekend.
The event brings more attention and a different vibe to the sport, something the regular events cant match. He wants NASCAR to explore the possibility of changing the schedule and preponing some of cup race to Saturdays. Chase Elliott also highlighted how the change can help people to avoid any potential issues that comes due to rain delay in Sunday night races.
I think our fans and the people that watch NASCAR, I think we all miss that Saturday night energy and that vibe around the races. And I would love to have more of them. We don’t have a lot of them in general. We have some of these Sunday night races, which I think are just kind of awkward for people, going back to work on Monday morning. Unfortunately, when you have a rain delay, like we did at Atlanta, we finished at 2:00 AM.
Chase Elliott added via Racin’ with the Boys podcast.
There are only three such races in the schedule at the moment; Cook Out 400, Coke Zero Sugar 400 and Bass Pro Shops Night Race at Bristol. All these races are in the second half of the season. The Hendrick Motorsports driver seems to be wanting to see the same elite vibe in the first half of the season as well.
Kind of tough, but just the energy and the atmosphere that is extracted from our sport on a Saturday night race, especially some of these short tracks, is pretty elite in my opinion. And I would love to have more of them.
Chase Elliott asserted.
Chase Elliott is excited over NASCAR’s return to North Wilkesboro
The NASCAR garage is at North Wilkesboro this weekend for the 21st race of the season and Elliott is really excited about it. He is happy to see the track back on the schedule again and is looking forward to producing a strong run, challenging for win on Sunday.

It’s a great stop on our schedule. Really, really happy to have it back. Happy to see a racetrack saved that was likely going away. And I think it’ll be really cool for the people around that area, and also those that are going to travel in, to watch a race there. Great environment, great vibe. So, I’m looking forward to it.
Chase Elliott said.
The comments from the veteran racer resonate with many in the Cup Series garage as the drivers really cherishes racing in the iconic track that was recently revived. It would be interesting to see how the event is going to playout for the No:9 Chevy team.
