Cam Skattebo lost his footing while doing a backflip. The New York Giants had suffered a horrible ankle injury back in October.

Skattebo recently attended Fanatics Fest. Before taking the stage to the tune of Triple H’s iconic entrance theme, the second-year Giants rusher attempted a backflip. Instead of landing on his feet, Skattebo took a tumble. The entire moment was captured on camera.

Fortunately, Skattebo walked away from the incident unscathed. Could the same be said about the Giants? Especially for the fans who may have had their hearts in their mouths seeing their starting running back toppling over.

Skattebo made his name as a hard-hitting rusher in college. Experts compared him to the fullbacks of the old days. The Giants got a bargain by drafting him in the fourth round. He played eight games, rushed 101 times for 410 yards, and scored 5 touchdowns. He also scored a couple of receiving touchdowns.

In week 8, the Giants faced off against rivals, the Philadelphia Eagles. In that game, Skattebo suffered a horrible ankle injury. The Giants placed him on the season-ending injured reserve list. Shortly after, he underwent surgery.

NFL teams expect their players to avoid further injuring themselves during the offseason. But they have no say in what the players can and cannot do during their free time. It’s the players’ duty to follow the protocol and stay away from any goofy activity. Skattebo needs to be more careful. He must think twice before charging headfirst into everything. That’s acceptable on the football field, but reckless in the real world.

Giants insider defends Cam Skattebo

The Giants handed Skattebo the tough task of replacing Saquon Barkley. Barkley held down the RB1 for multiple years before joining the Eagles in 2024. In his first year, Barkley won the Offensive Player of the Year award and a maiden Super Bowl winner’s ring.

Experts did not expect Skattebo to produce numbers at the same rate as Barkley, due to the stylistic differences between the two players. Nevertheless, Skattebo won over the Giants fan base with his no-nonsense plays.

His injury had a profound effect on the fans. It happened at a bad time. He was getting hot, earning some valuable yards. But his own playing style caused the damage. And the backflip at Fanatics Fest proved that he will not change his approach even if it endangers his body.

Then again, this wasn’t the first time since the injury Skattebo had attempted a backflip, Giants insider Art Stapleton tweeted.

The reax [reaction] to Cam Skattebo’s backflip at Fanatics Fest is absurd given he did one TWO MONTHS AGO at the Brian Burns celebrity softball. But Skattebo was practicing as spring ended. His leg/ankle is pretty much healed. I wouldn’t want Skatt doing it, but ignoring all else is dumb.

The Giants expect Cam Skattebo back at the training camp

According to multiple reports, the Giants’ 2026 offseason training camp will kick off at Greenbrier Sports Performance Center in White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia, to avoid the New Jersey traffic. Will Skattebo attend?

Head coach John Harbaugh provided an update on Skattebo on The Domonique Foxworth Show. Coach Harbaugh revealed that Skattebo’s rehab is on track.

I feel like Skatt will be ready early on in camp, really quick.

Harbaugh said (H/T NBC Sports)

Skattebo started his college career with Sacramento State. Three years later, he transferred to Arizona State. In 2024, Skattebo rushed 293 times for 1711 yards and scored 21 rushing touchdowns. He also caught 21 passes for 605 yards and scored 3 touchdowns. He finished 5th in the Heisman Trophy voting.
