Cody Rhodes will get a crack at the Undisputed WWE Title at SummerSlam against CM Punk. It could’ve turned into a Fatal 4-Way had they lost to Gunther and Sami Zayn at Saturday Night’s Main Event. However, following an assist from Nick Aldis, who shockingly blasted ‘The Ring General’ with the WWE title belt, Rhodes and Punk picked up the win.

As they were embracing after the match, Punk flicked the strap of the championship into Rhodes’ eye in what looked like a completely inadvertent manner. ‘The Best in the World’ didn’t even realize it happened, and he proceeded to exit the ring while Rhodes was seen favoring his affected eye.

After the show ended, Punk was up for a chat with Jackie Redmond, but before they could begin, Rhodes pulled up. ‘The Second City Saint’ gave a confused look with ‘The QB1’ asking Punk if what he did out there was just an accident.

The champ couldn’t figure out what Rhodes was referring to, and the former AEW EVP deemed it embarrassing. Both Punk and Rhodes told the camera person to stop recording.

After Redmond exited, Rhodes doubled down on Punk messing up his eye with the flick of his title belt. “It’s an accident, right? That’s what I’m asking you….it’s an accident!” said Cody, with Punk responding, “A hundred percent.” Bobby Roode made his way out there, and Cody Rhodes yelled at the cameraman to turn it off.

‘The American Nightmare’ accused Punk of acting emotional all the time and wasn’t willing to believe that Punk’s antics were inadvertent. As they kept going back and forth, even Trick Williams entered the scene to calm things down.

With the camera still on, the crew member holding it received yet another mouthful, but it was from Punk this time around. The fans seemed to have really dug this sort of interaction between Cody Rhodes and CM Punk, with them closing in on their match at SummerSlam.

All their laughing and hugging can take a backseat for now, and that’s where things are seemingly headed. Punk told Rhodes a couple of weeks ago on SmackDown that he didn’t want anything to come in between their friendship.

However, things have started to fall apart for these men. Their inevitable interaction on SmackDown this coming Friday is going to be interesting to say the least.

Why did CM Punk stepped away from WWE after this year’s WrestleMania?

After losing the World Heavyweight Championship to Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 42, CM Punk appeared on Raw the following night and then disappeared for almost two and a half months before returning in his hometown of Chicago earlier this month.

‘The Voice of the Voiceless’ explained his WWE absence in his return promo on SmackDown, saying he’d been negotiating with the WWE management and NBC Universal to bring him over to SmackDown.

While it was a fairly reasonable way to explain his time off, the Chicagoan has finally revealed the actual reason for him staying at home that long.

The 47-year-old recently joined ESPN New York before partaking in Saturday Night’s Main Event. During the conversation, he got asked about his WWE hiatus. First of all, CM Punk mentioned it being his first instance taking time off without being injured or undergoing surgery.

He talked about working close to a full year on Raw, with several months including him as the world champion. ‘The Voice of the Voiceless’ also revealed losing some of his close friends over the past few months, but he kept showing up to work partially because seeing his WWE family and interacting with the fans helped him get through a mentally tough phase.

However, there were still some parts that he needed to process, and his time away from WWE was to give him the reset he sorely needed. Punk got to spend more time with his wife, AJ Lee, and what more could he have asked for?

But now that he’s back on the road once again, he vowed to be as full-time as it gets. For those still upset with Punk’s most recent absence, he reiterated that he had been mourning some of his deceased friends.
