As LIV Golf prepares for the upcoming UK event, there is still some uncertainty regarding its future. Former World No.1 Martin Kaymer recently claimed that the team championship event in Michigan is in doubt amid the financial crisis of the league.

After the Masters Tournament in April, reports emerged that the Public Investment Fund (PIF) of Saudi Arabia was pulling the plug on the LIV Golf project and would stop their funding once the season comes to an end.

This development was confirmed later that month after Yasir Al-Rumayyan stepped down from his post as the chairman of the league. The Saudi official is the governor of the PIF, the sovereign wealth fund of Saudi Arabia.

Since then, LIV Golf has been actively looking for investors. There have been speculations that the league could come to an end once this season is done. CEO Scott O’Neil, however, has been in conversation with several investors and has expressed that the league will continue to go on.

This week’s event in the United Kingdom will be LIV’s first event since early June. They had an event lined up in Louisiana in late June. However, this event was postponed to a later date due to peak summertime and the FIFA World Cup.

Martin Kaymer, the former World No.1, spoke with Today’s Golfer. During this interview, the Cleeks GC captain expressed that the team finale event in Michigan is “highly unlikely” to take place at the moment.

I know that Indianapolis most likely is happening. There was a conversation yesterday. Michigan, highly unlikely. So basically, what we already knew. That’s why I think it became a captains’ meeting and not a players’ meeting, because they couldn’t give us much more than we had before.

Martin Kaymer said

The German international gave a 5 percent chance of the event taking place as scheduled.

The season-ending Team Championship event is currently scheduled to take place from August 27-30 at The Cardinal course in Michigan. There is a $40 million purse for this event.

Jon Rahm remained tight-lipped about the future of LIV Golf

Is LIV Golf going to end after this season? That has been the question in the minds of many following the PIF’s withdrawal of financial support. Earlier this week, Jon Rahm remained tight-lipped about the future of his league.

Rahm, who is the captain of Legion XIII, has been in conversation with the others during the captain’s meetings. In the press conference ahead of the UK event, the Spaniard was asked if there was any clarity regarding the future.

The 2-time major champion refused to share anything. When asked if he was optimistic about the future, he said he was always optimistic.

I’m not going to share anything that I can’t share with you guys right now.

Jon Rahm told the reporters

Earlier this month, he dropped a hypothetical answer when asked if he would pitch money from his own pocket to help LIV Golf.

Something I’ve learned in life, never say never. I’m not going to say absolutely no to anything that can happen in the future.

Jon Rahm told the reporters before the Genesis Scottish Open

Previously, Rahm claimed that he would not get involved in investment talks, unlike Bryson DeChambeau. The 31-year-old claimed he had no idea about business and would let the others handle this.

This week, LIV Golf suffered another blow. The Asian Tour, which had partnered with them, joined the PGA Tour and the DP World Tour. LIV had reportedly invested over $300 million in them.

So the big question remains the same: what will happen to LIV? The answer to this will come in due time. For now, the LIV golfers will turn their attention to the UK event at the JCB Golf and Country Club this week.
