The card for SummerSlam continued to grow after this week’s SmackDown. After the show went off-air, Trick Williams got ambushed by Baron Corbin. ‘The Lone Wolf’ sneak-attacked the United States Champion at ringside when Williams was shaking hands with the fans.

Corbin rained down a slurry of punches before driving ‘Trick Willy’ into the steel steps. ‘The Nomad’ then tossed Williams into the ring and landed several kicks on the champ and eventually dropped him with a clothesline. As Corbin turned to make his way to the back, Williams grabbed a mic and went off.

The 32-year-old affirmed it was easy to sneak up on somebody when they’re not watching. Therefore, the ‘Anointed One’ was willing to give Corbin an opportunity to prove that he wasn’t scared of Trick and didn’t belong in retirement. That being said, Williams challenged Corbin for a singles match at SummerSlam.

‘The Nomad’ declared that Williams was done for and he would take that United States Title from him at the Biggest Party of the Summer. It has now been made official by Triple H. The WWE CCO wrote that one champion is in his glory and one man is looking to return to it. Being a former US Champion, Baron Corbin would love to add to it next weekend.

With Trick Williams confirmed to have a match at SummerSlam, he’s on track to have competed at 5 of the 6 WWE PLEs thus far since getting called up to the main roster in January 2026. ‘The Anointed One’ won the US title from Sami Zayn in his WrestleMania debut and has been thriving with that belt around his waist.

One major issue that the fans have raised with his SummerSlam match is the glaring omission of Carmelo Hayes from the mix. The latter took on ‘Trick Willy’ a couple of weeks ago on SmackDown, and a win there would’ve put Melo in contention for a shot at the US title. However, Hayes and Williams got attacked by a returning Baron Corbin.

Melo was nowhere to be seen on the latest edition of SmackDown, and with Corbin vs. Williams being announced for SummerSlam, things are looking pretty bleak for Hayes at the moment. He has previously endured the heartbreak of sitting out of WrestleMania 42, and missing SummerSlam too would be absolutely devastating for him.

Has WWE gotten over its ticket sales vows for SummerSlam?

The story regarding WWE struggling with SummerSlam ticket sales made rounds on social media just over a week ago. As per the estimates of WrestleTix, the company had only sold about 22,000 tickets for each night.

With the show just a week away, have the sales picked up? The latest numbers suggest that there’s been a significant jump in the amount of tickets sold from where they were a few days back.

The Saturday night of SummerSlam has slightly more tickets sold, with 30,205 in comparison with the Sunday night having distributed 29,897 tickets, as of a couple of days ago.

The jump in the sales across both nights could be attributed to WWE offering selective seats for as low as $25 using Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Justin Jefferson‘s code. It would be interesting to see if SummerSlam manages to touch the 40,000-mark for both nights by showtime.

The company has put together a pretty strong card with the likes of Roman Reigns vs. Seth Rollins, CM Punk vs. Cody Rhodes, and Oba Femi vs. Brock Lesnar inside Hell in a Cell, to name a few.

The event will also see the WWE in-ring debut of former SmackDown GM Nick Aldis, who will wage war against Gunther. A ladder match to determine the interim WWE women’s champion is also set for the Biggest Party of the Summer.
