CM Punk and Cody Rhodes tagged in at a WWE live event in Stockton on Saturday. They defeated the duo of Sami Zayn and Gunther, with Punk getting the pinfall over Zayn. Afterwards, when Rhodes proceeded to hand the Undisputed WWE Title over to the ‘Best in the World’, he appeared to drop it intentionally.

Still annoyed by Punk flipping the strap of the championship right into his eye at Saturday Night’s Main Event, Rhodes has since resorted to playing mind games with Punk. The QB1’s cheap tactic didn’t sit well with the ‘Second City Saint’, and the two of them got into a heated argument.

As Punk aggressively got into Rhodes’ face, the latter shoved the champ away in disgust. The Chicagoan retorted with the same, and it appeared like they were about to start a brawl. However, just then, Danhausen, who only had a towel on, stepped in the ring and came between the SummerSlam opponents.

The man who claims to be very nice and very evil played peacemaker and eventually calmed things down. CM Punk and Cody Rhodes are scheduled to team up on two more occasions before SummerSlam. Next Thursday in Springfield is their last time joining forces for now, and that’s where Rhodes will bring an obligatory gift for Punk.

As the former AEW EVP told Punk in their segment this past Friday on SmackDown, that gift would be an apology for the amount of damage he’s going to inflict on the 47-year-old at the ‘Biggest Party of the Summer’. The champ responded by saying he also had something planned for ‘The American Nightmare’.

However, unlike Rhodes, Punk would present it at SummerSlam, and it’d be nothing less than a monumental pillar-to-post beating wrapped in a lesson called a loss. With one more SmackDown remaining before the gloves come off at SummerSlam, the fans could expect some more trash talk between them.

Cody Rhodes has already clarified that he’s done playing that brotherly bond with CM Punk that they’ve displayed in recent years. ‘The Prodigal Son’ revealed on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon that Punk filled in as a big brother sort of role in his career due to the fact that his late father, Dusty Rhodes, once asked the ‘Best in the World’ to look out for his son in this business.

Who will CM Punk or Cody Rhodes see challenging them after SummerSlam?

While CM Punk is gearing up to defend the Undisputed WWE Title against Cody Rhodes at SummerSlam, the next in line to challenge for the championship will also be determined at the US Bank Stadium in Minnesota this weekend.

After winning a Fatal-4-Way match on last week’s SmackDown, Finn Balor earned his way into a No. 1 contender’s match against Sami Zayn at SummerSlam.

They will duke it out to determine who will get a crack at the world title after SummerSlam regardless of who walks out of Minnesota as the Undisputed WWE Champion between CM Punk and Cody Rhodes.

Speaking of Zayn and Balor, both men are agonizingly close to where they want to get. When it comes to ‘The Prince’, he would be gunning to restore the glory of the night he had back at SummerSlam in 2016 when he became the inaugural Universal Champion.

However, he was forced to relinquish the title just 24 hours later on Raw due to a dislocated shoulder, and that continues to haunt him. Balor has not been able to match that high in the past decade, but he has the opportunity to take a major step in that direction come SummerSlam.

On the other hand, the hapless Sami Zayn would need to eliminate all the noise of biased treatment against him if he wants to overcome a rejuvenated Balor.

‘The Last Real Good Guy’ reached the mountaintop at Night of Champions by winning his first world championship, only for it to be taken away from him just 9 days later by CM Punk.

Zayn has since accused Adam Pearce and Nick Aldis of conspiring against him for making him defend his title on a show he wasn’t even a part of. Zayn could lament about it as much as he wants, but it wouldn’t change anything for him unless he beats Balor and gets back in the hunt to chase the world title again.
