When LeBron James announced that he was joining the Philadelphia 76ers, many wondered why he would move to the city where he had no obvious connections and would be far away from his family.

The 41-year-old is not uprooting his family from Los Angeles, as his daughter, Zhuri, studies at the famed Sierra Canyon School in Chatsworth. Moreover, Savannah James has businesses on the West Coast, which, along with her husband’s various business interests, will make it difficult for her to spend considerable time across the country.

Apart from all that, many argued that the four-time champion would not find many things to do in Philadelphia. Then, it was reported that he would be staying in New York and would commute to Xfinity Mobile Arena and back.

It is usually a two-hour drive if the league’s all-time leading scorer were to live in, say, Tribeca, one of the poshest areas in the Big Apple. Considering how James prefers a driver over handling the wheel, that should not be a problem.

In fact, he can get one of his famous power naps throughout the journey, and his Maybachs have enough space in the back to accommodate any recovery equipment on the way back. But that, it seems, is not enough for the King.

Ever since the news that James was joining the 76ers came out, multiple ESPN sources have revealed that there is a possibility that the superstar will travel to Philadelphia via a helicopter, cutting his travel time down to 45 minutes.

Fans lose their minds over LeBron James helicopter rumors

It is still a rumor, as neither LeBron James nor his camp has confirmed that he would be taking the chopper every day. However, since neither of them has refuted the rumor so far, fans have begun to admit that this is a possibility.

They took to social media to react to this news, with most of them commenting that the billionaire proved he did not mind spending money on what he felt was right. Then others pointed out that this was James showing who is the biggest name in sports. Check out examples of those various reactions below.

Even if LeBron James were to hire a chopper to fly him back and forth to New York, it would not be something he is overspending on. The forward is known for his miserly ways, which is why the chopper company could possibly be handing the bill over to one of his sponsors.

Living in New York could be advantageous for LeBron James

When LeBron James moved to Los Angeles, it was clear that he wanted to dip his fingers into Hollywood and possibly Silicon Valley. Decisions there helped him become a billionaire. But now, he is going to pause further activity there, since he is on the opposite side of the country.

By staying in New York, the 6’9″ star can do something that the likes of Stephen A. Smith said when trying to recruit him to join the Knicks. The ESPN analyst mentioned that if James could become a billionaire in LA, he could multiply that with the Knicks.

But after the franchise won the 2026 championship, there was no mutual interest between the Knicks and James. But if he lives in the city, he can still tap into the massive market New York provides.

The four-time league MVP has connections there, with Fanatics founder Michael Rubin and rapper-cum-producer Jay Z running things. If anything, he would have no dearth of opportunities, which is why staying in the city makes a lot of sense.
