After his NFL career was cut short, Shilo Sanders switched his focus to creating lifestyle content on YouTube. Recently, Shilo linked up with his mother, Pilar Sanders, at a restaurant in Miami where they discussed an important phase in everyone’s life, parenthood.
Well, Shilo wasn’t exactly the one who came up with the topic. He got the spark after his younger brother, Cleveland Browns quarterback Shedeur Sanders, wrote on Instagram that he would be open to becoming a father.
Shilo asked Pilar whether it was a good idea for him and Shedeur to think about parenthood. Pilar quickly objected.
I think you guys are too young right now… [24-26 years old] that’s too young, number one… You’re in the primes of your life. You’re going into it. So, I think you need to enjoy your life a little bit more. Like, on single level, no children, no luggage. None of that.
Pilar Sanders announced her verdict
Shilo, 26, and Shedeur, 24, are the sons of Pilar and Hall of Famer Deion Sanders. Recently, Shedeur reacted to his father’s photo of him taking a nap with his grandson inside his private jet.
I think we all should have kids now, Shilo Sanders, Deion Sanders Jr.
Shedeur Sanders commented
Shilo quickly commented, asking for the identity of Shedeur’s partner.“Bet tag who you’re going to have yours with,” Shilo wrote.
Deion and Pilar also share a daughter, Shelomi Sanders. Pilar is Deion Sanders’ second wife, whom he married in 1999, and the marriage lasted until 2013.
Deion Sanders has two children, Deiondra Sanders and Deion Sanders Jr., from his first wife, Carolyn Chambers. Sanders and Chambers were married in 1989 and were divorced nine years later.
Is Shilo Sanders still playing football?
Shilo was born in Dallas, Texas, and attended Trinity Christian High School. After graduation, he committed to play at South Carolina. However, after spending most of his time on the bench during his first two seasons, Shilo Sanders entered the college football transfer portal and signed with the Jackson State Cowboys (FCS).
Deion Sanders had just become the head coach of the Cowboys. In the same year, Shedeur also committed to Jackson State. Coach Prime made Shedeur the starting quarterback and Shilo a team captain.
In his second year (fourth year in college), Shilo suffered an ACL injury and played only seven games. J State won consecutive conference titles.
Ahead of the 2023 season, coach Prime made the jump to the FBS, accepting the Colorado job. He took both Shilo and Shedeur with him. In their first year, the Buffaloes won four games, but the following season (2024), they improved to a 9-4 regular-season record.
Shilo played 52 games in college. He recorded 217 tackles, 13 passes defensed, 7 forced fumbles, 6 TFLs, and 6 interceptions.
Both Sanders brothers declared for the 2025 NFL Draft. While Shedeur was selected in the fifth round by the Cleveland Browns, Shilo went undrafted.
Shilo reportedly hired an agent who helped him get a trial with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The Bucs gave him a chance to prove himself during the offseason.
Shilo had impressed the Bucs coaches and even appeared in a preseason friendly against the Buffalo Bills. However, in the heat of the moment, he punched Bills tight end Zach Davidson and was ejected by the referee. Later, the NFL even issued a $4,669 fine in Shilo’s name. The Bucs eventually cut Shilo Sanders during the 53-man roster announcement day.
In May 2026, Shilo Sanders made the shocking decision to retire from professional football.
