Monica McNutt Disagreeing with WNBA’s Decision to Rescind Caitlin Clark’s 8th Technical Foul Angers Fans – “She Really is a Hater”
Monica McNutt has a reputation among Caitlin Clark's fans as an analyst who generally finds reasons to criticize the Fever guard.

Caitlin Clark and her Indiana Fever broke their two-game losing streak with a much-needed win over a resurgent Chicago Sky. Her shooting stroke seemed to have returned, as did that of her team.
But two major incidents overshadowed that win. The first was when Sky guard DiJonai Carrington whacked Sophie Cunningham across the face. The former’s intention was to swipe the ball away from the Fever veteran, but her timing and hand placement ended up making the situation worse.
Some shoving ensued, and both players had to be separated. Cunningham was bleeding from her mouth, which forced the officials to review the incident. Eventually, Carrington was assessed a Flagrant 2 and ejected.
The latter then went on to make the situation worse when she wrote on Threads that the Fever benefited from ‘White Privilege.’ This has started another discourse, but it thankfully does not involve Caitlin Clark.
The point guard was part of another debate amongst fans and the media after she was first assessed a technical foul for bumping into a game official. That was her eighth, which meant she would be automatically suspended for the next game.
However, the WNBA did not wait for the Indiana Fever to appeal, and instantly rescinded the technical foul. When ESPN’s WNBA Countdown show was discussing it, Monica McNutt said this:
All I’m saying is I have flashbacks to college, where my teammate bumped into a coach like this, and it was a problem.

The Georgetown Hoyas alum cited one past incident to suggest that back then, the sort of technical foul Caitlin Clark received would have stayed.
Fans tear into Monica McNutt for another critical take on Caitlin Clark
When espnW uploaded a clip of this discussion on social media, fans noticed that the network had deftly left out Monica McNutt’s reaction. Then, that missing part appeared, and it quickly went viral.
Fans felt that this was another instance proving how the analyst has been channeling her criticism about Caitlin Clark, even though there is enough evidence that her collision with the referee was accidental. They tore into her, calling out her biased takes, even asking the network to fire her. Check out examples of those reactions below.
She is really a hater

ESPN needs to take away their platform. The victim era is over. How about we reward professionalism and excellence, not whatever this is.

Most of us wouldn't even know who these people are if they didn't make these statements. Stop making idiots famous.

Monica is actively tarnishing ESPN’s brand. There is no fluid analysis. It’s awkward pauses because she can’t contribute to an actual dialogue about the game she claims to have watched with an unbiased opinion.

Wonder if espn will give McNutt more time for more clicks???

I think they need to get her off ESPN bc atp she’s letting her feelings towards CC cloud her journalism by being unbiased and calling it fair for what it is
— Shawn (@Shawnlethalkck) August 10, 2026
The best part is she just has to be a contrarian to get attention. bc it’s already been rescinded so what’s the discussion? She’s wants to grift

The thin veil is now off, unabashed, full throttle Caitlin Clark hatred is now on display at ESPN.

After ESPN’s recent firings, it seemed that those whose jobs were safe knew that any biased analysis or any opinion featuring a racial undertone might not be tolerated. But fans felt that McNutt is continuing to do her bit to continue her criticism of Clark whenever she gets a chance.
Monica McNutt’s colleagues held a different opinion on Caitlin Clark’s ‘accident’
This debate about Caitlin Clark‘s eighth technical foul started with host Malika Andrews asking her colleagues whether the Fever guard’s apparent push-off was enough for the official to call it.

Her motion is continuing. I don’t feel like she’s pushing off… If you are blaming it on that push-off, then you need to take that technical foul back.

After Carter, former WNBA All-Star and fellow analyst Chiney Ogwumike remarked that usually Clark talks some trash to officials. But in this instance, she did not do so. Hence, there was nothing intentional in that collision.

The WNBA did rescind the technical foul, which means the point guard will be able to play the next game against the New York Liberty. The upcoming stretch of games is important for the Fever to regain lost ground in the league standings, and they need their primary playmaker to be available.
