Since he lost the championship led to Denny Hamlin after the 17th race of the season, 23XI Racing’s Tyler Reddick is going through a nightmarish streak. He has failed match the pace, that earned him five wins in the start of the year, with five finishes outside the top-25 in last eight races showing how dire situation is.
He wrecked out on lap-4 four of the race, after losing his control on turn one and collecting Legacy Motor Club’s Erik Jones in the process. It ruined the race for both, as they had to settle for 35th and 36th place fishes. On his media session after getting released from the infield care centre, the 23XI driver took all the blae for the incident and admitted that he made a killer mistake that took out his TRD teammate.
Just gut-wrenching on a lot of levels. I thought we kind of figured out what we needed to do for the race today, and I made a killer mistake. I hate it for my team, but Erik Jones and everybody at Legacy, they needed a strong day, and it’s just not ideal. Obviously, if I’m going to take myself out, that’s one thing. But I took out a Toyota teammate that needed to have a good day, so 100% it’s on me. Something I normally don’t do, normally don’t make those kind of mistakes, so very disappointed.
Tyler Reddick said post-race.
The No:45 driver is beyond disappointed with the incident, as this kind of mistake has never been something that was part-of racing. Tyler Reddick had car capable of getting them at least a top 5 finish and he ruined it by committing a mistake so early in the race. What more heartbreaking is fact that he has now dropped top P4 in the table from P2, behind Ty Gibbs and Ryan Blaney. Denny Hamlin now has 120 points lead on the 23XI driver, almost guaranteeing him the regulars season championship.
It’s something I normally don’t do, normally don’t make those kinds of mistakes, so very disappointed, obviously. We had signs of that in run one in practice out of our SupplyHouse Camry, and in run two, qualifying, our car was much better. It’s gut-wrenching on a lot of levels; I thought we kind of figured out what we needed to do for the race today and made a killer mistake early.

Erik Jones responds to the Tyler Reddick clash
LMC driver Erik Jones was really frustrated seeing his race end so early, dropping him to P20 in the points table, 50 points outside the cutline. He knows his TRD teammate didn’t wreck him deliberately, but the consequences of Reddick mistakes have put him really bad spot.

I think Tyler just got loose and crashed. There’s nothing more to say. I know he didn’t mean to do it. He took himself out, too, but it’s frustrating.
Erik Jones said post-race.
With the massive points gap, his chances of making it into the last-16 has dropped significantly. There are just three more races left in the regular season and he needs to have three back-to-back top-5 finishes while the drivers on the bubble struggle to get into the list of title chasers.
It’s gonna be a long shot from here. I mean, we’re gonna be deep after today … we needed three really good weeks — and it had to start today.
Erik Jones added.
The comments from the veteran racer shows how much the result hurt his chances of earning millions more for his team this season. Both Reddick and Jones need to create clinical runs in the remaining races to get them back in the chase of their respective goals.
