The NASCAR Cup Series race on Sunday at Iowa witnessed an impressive return to form from Trackhouse Racing’s Ross Chastain. He finished the race P7, earning 40+ points, earning him a spot back in the chase bubble. Despite the strong run, he wasn’t happy with the track and was critical about the race product post-race.
The No:1 Chevy driver asserted that he is fine with immediately taking a jackhammer and tera the track down, to construct something better. The state government, alongside the track and NASCAR is going to invest $20 million into the project, saving a track that was once abandoned by everyone one involved.
I’m fine with it. I’ll go out there and get the first jackhammer if there’s a Kubota nearby. I would. Yeah, look, I think you’ve got to continue to invest, and for NASCAR, the France family and Iowa and Iowa Speedway, if they don’t invest in this kind of property, we will slowly lose it, and one day we’ll realize we’re in shambles.
Ross Chastain said post-race.
Veteran Ross Chastain knows any reconstruction project is going to be costly for the partners involved and pointed out that the commitment shows by NASCAR to invest in the project shows how much they care about the motorsport’s fandom in Iowa. At the end of the day NASCAR needs to keep their prestigious and historic venues alive, to be successful in the long run.
So, it’s one of those, spend it if you got it, I feel like. It’s gonna cost a lot of money, and it’s a sign that they’re committed to Iowa and the fans turn out to keep selling this place out. So yeah, I’ll go run a jackhammer if it’s hooked to a Kubota right now.

Ross Chastain is banking on Goodyear to make racing better in the repaved track
One major question about the repave is the fact, new tracks often struggle to have great races from the get go. Ross Chastain thoughts aren’t concerned about it, as he believes the sport tire provider Goodyear will deliver tires good enough to make racing more exciting.

I think you can dictate a lot with the tires and once it’s paved, bring cars here. I guess the end of this year, I don’t know if they can get cars on track by the end of the year, but go with a tire that wears. There were some options at the tire test that corded.
Ross Chastain said.
He also talked about the Goodyear tire test recently and pointed out that there were some positive results from the recent tests. With enough time they can deliver the rubber compound that would make racing more entertaining that it is now at Iowa.
These tires didn’t cord, so I think Goodyear got a good idea from the drivers that were here for the test. I wasn’t, but from what they told me, there were some directions that they saw; they just couldn’t produce quite in time. And now they’ve got some more testing to do on the new track and work on the tire. There’s a lot of watermelon juice there.
Ross Chastain added.
The comments from the veteran racers are on point and shows how he really wants to see some changes to the iconic venue. It would be interesting to see how the future is going to playout for the track and racer in the coming days.
