There is no doubt that AJ Brown is still one of the best wide receivers in the league. There is also no doubt that Sauce Gardner is also one of the better cornerbacks in the NFL despite having a down season.
The Indianapolis Colts paid top dollar for the latter, as they felt the 24-year-old was going to help the defense up its ante in the future. Last season, he had statistically one of his worst campaigns, and many felt that the franchise overpaid for him.
However, many, including the Colts, expect the Cincinnati alum to bounce back this season. That hope may not be out of place when something came to light about how he has been faring against top wideouts in training camp.
Sauce Gardner reposted a fan tweet on X that claims the defensive back locked up Brown throughout the session. That post also claims that the Colts star managed to have a highlight on the New England Patriots’ other wideout, Kayshon Boutte.

The fan posting this also tagged Logan Hancock, a self-proclaimed Colts Professional Fan, who was at the training camp battle between the Colts and the Patriots. He summed up the battle between Gardner and Brown by revealing how it went down.
Sure, Sauce Gardner got beat. He lost a rep in coverage and got beat by a great wide receiver in AJ Brown. But he also locked up Brown for the rest of practice.

This means that, contrary to what was spreading on social media, the Colts defensive ace did have an overall brilliant outing against Brown. The problem is that no mainstream media reported it, which is why Gardner had to repost what fans saw.
Clip of AJ Brown leaving Sauce Gardner on skates went viral
The video that prompted such a reaction from Sauce Gardner was of AJ Brown leaving him on skates. The clip was uploaded by Patriots’ media partners, CLNS Media, which explains why they only uploaded this one and not anything else showing the Colts star locking up their wide receiver.
Partner media networks and a team’s social media teams are supposed to show only the best parts of such events. That is why that clip appeared on the internet. As of the time of this article, the original Patriots on CLNS’ video has amassed more than 2.6 million views.
Since this was a clip showing Brown having a better time than when his own teammate locked him up, the views were enough to create the narrative that he has not lost a step. Rather, it is Gardner who seems to have concerning problems.

The clip shows a sit route where Brown starts well enough to beat Gardner off the line. Once the latter catches the wideout, Brown slams on the brakes, runs back a couple of yards to catch the ball, and then reverses to start his run up the field.
When the pass catcher changes direction, Gardner slips twice on the field, losing his footing, which allows Brown to make an easy catch. This clip led many to believe that the latter is great and the Colts star’s hype is fading.
Sauce Gardner deletes original response to the video
Sure, just like the Patriots’ fans and their media partners were highlighting AJ Brown, Indianapolis fans will do the same for Sauce Gardner. However, the defensive back did try to first calm the storm on his own.

All of this from a 1on1 rep? 😂& a 8-yard sit route at that? It’s a reason that’s the only one y’all saw.😴🔒

However, the two-time All-Pro deleted this tweet soon after and proceeded to use the fan remarks rather than just his claim. It may have been his way of using third-party witness reports rather than face flak for claiming something that wasn’t on tape.
