Jayson Tatum has seen a lot of ups and downs in his NBA career. Drafted by the Boston Celtics as the number three pick in the 2017 NBA draft, Tatum has developed into one of the best players in the league over the years.
Since joining the NBA, Tatum has found success early in his career. He played an instrumental role in the Celtics’ run to the Eastern Conference Finals in his rookie year. In nine years, he has reached two NBA Finals and three Eastern Conference Finals. He helped the team lift the championship in 2024, which was their first title since 2008.
During his time with the Celtics, he has grown into a fan favorite in the city. His son, Deuce, has also become a fan favorite.
On his appearance on The Draymond Green Show, Tatum said that while he is happy to give Deuce a good life, it is important to raise his son to be grounded.
We work so hard to give our kids a lot better life than we had growing up. And that’s what you’re supposed to do as a parent. How do I instill that toughness or that work ethic. Whereas, Deuce, he come to NBA games, he sitting courtside, he in the locker room, he on private jets, we going to islands. All he knows is paradise.

Tatum and his son share a beautiful father-son bond with each other. Deuce was born in 2017 and is now nine years old. He is the older son of Tatum’s two children and is often seen courtside whenever his father takes to the court.
The six-time All-Star was brought up by a single mother and knows the hardships of life. Meanwhile, his son has had a very different upbringing, as Tatum is a successful NBA star. Hence, Tatum believes that as his son gets older, his focus will be on teaching him that nothing comes without sacrifice and work.
Jayson Tatum looked ahead to the possibility of playing in the NBA with his son Deuce
The NBA had a historic moment in 2024 when the Los Angeles Lakers drafted Bronny James. He played alongside his father, LeBron James, and the duo became the first father-son pair to play together in NBA history. The two played as teammates for two seasons and created history and several memorable moments.

It looks like Tatum has plans to do the same and is ready to play for another 10 years till his son is ready to break into the league.
He turns 8, I’m 27, it’s like, ‘Man, can I play 10 more years?’ I can easily do that. I mean, if it were to work out, that would be cool. He just started playing basketball on the organized team. So he’s really starting to fall in love with the game. It’s exciting to see that.

If no other fathers and sons beat them to it, Tatum and Deuce could become the second father-son duo to play together in the NBA. With Deuce already a well-known face in Boston, fans will welcome him with open arms.
Jayson Tatum could be replaced with Jaylen Brown on the 2020s All-Decade Team
Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown formed one of the most lethal duos in the league over the last decade. The two stars spent nine seasons together, and many believed that they would continue to do so for a long time. However, Brown’s trade to the Philadelphia 76ers stunned everyone. Even Tatum was left feeling “weird” after Brown’s exit.
During a conversation on the 2020s All-Decade Team, Club 520 spoke about replacing Tatum with Brown.
Who would you replace JT with? Jaylen Brown. Im just saying he’s got a finals MVP. Imagine not getting to play on the USA team but you’re on the all Decade team. And got no USA burn. He’s going to play for the 2028 USA team though because Kobe played. They don’t deserve you JT.

“Tatum at least had a championship, Luka has none of that. Who else would you replace JT with? Jaylen Brown. Im just saying he’s got a finals MVP. Imagine not getting to play on the USA… pic.twitter.com/M1SM4zrhDk
While Tatum was widely considered to be a better player and scorer than Brown, it is Brown who was named the Eastern Conference Finals and Finals MVP in 2024. Unfortunately for Brown, the Celtics front office decided to keep building around Tatum and let Brown go.
