Team Peske Racing’s Joey Logano was the most successful driver in the four round playoffs era, winning three championships with two of them coming in the Next-Gen car. This infuriated majority of the fanbase, as the Team Penske Racing veteran won those titles taking advantage of his clutch form unlike other who won by being more consistent.

There were a significant group of fans that often disrespect the veteran by questioning the legitimacy of his titles and it intensified when the format was changed to 10-race chase at the start of the 2026 season. Despite a tough start Logano has found himself in the title conversation with a late season resurgence in form that earned him two wins. Following last Saturday’s win at Richmond, ending a nine-year streak, he took swipe at the critics.

To answer the question first, they’re all legit. I don’t care what the format is. Everyone knew the rules when it started, okay? I’ll say that first (smiling).

Joey Logano said post-race at Richmond.

He has been running with a chip on his shoulders throughout the 2026 season and admitted that they have a ‘4 the Haters’ slogan in the hauler scoreboard. Joey Logano used the unfair criticism as extra motivation to get back in the victory lane. He also didn’t forget to boast about the three trophies and millions he earned in the last decade to irk the haters.

Do I have a little chip on my shoulder? Yes. That’s a clear yes. So much that our little team slogan in our hauler, our scoreboard, is, ‘4 the Haters.’ That’s where we’re at. That’s a little good extra motivation. Either way the Mickey Mouse ears look good on the trophies either way, and the check was pretty cool to go with it.

Joey Logano doesn’t sugarcoat opinion about early 2026 struggles

In the same conversation later, Logano discussed how frustrating it was for the No:22 team to produce no solid runs at the start of the year, despite him and crew chief Paul Wolfe working hard behind the scenes. They were doing the same thing they are doing today with preparations, but unfortunately at the start of the year failed to secure any momentum.

I mean, I’m also a realist, you know, I don’t sugarcoat much. Paul doesn’t either. We have the tough conversations … I remember vividly telling him sitting in his office, Paul, if I had the keys to this place, it had my name on the door, I don’t know what I would do different.

Joey Logano said.

Further talking about the point, he admitted that it was beyond frustrating to not have results considering he had one of the strongest teams in the whole garage with him. The whole No:22 team sticked together and rod out the hard time together, as they often do. If they were any other team, they would’ve lost the will to continue fighting.

That was a confusing, frustrating thing to say because I felt like I have all the right people around me, we just weren’t winning or running well in that case, which is kind of just confusing, head-scratching. Proud of everyone sticking together. Those are the times it’s hard to do that. Times you see teams break.

Joey Logano added.

The mentality of the veteran crew is the product of their decade long career in NASCAR where they always perform when they had the most pressure on their shoulders. If Logano can continue scoring points in the remaining two races of the regular season, he can give Denny Hamlin and co a massive challenge in the chase, with the points resetting.
