The NASCAR community is still not over the tragic passing of two tines champion Kyle Busch owing to severe pneumonia a couple months ago and tributes are still pouring in. This week the sport made a special announcement by designating August 18th (8/18) as “Kyle Busch Day”, paying tribute to tow number he raced in.

On the day Hendrick Motorsport shared a video where Kyle Larson and Chase Elliott revealed their favorite memory of the racing legend. The No:5 HMS racer pointed out that one of his first and fondest memory is losing 2022 Homestead Truck race to him. The race thought him how run the wall, as after passing him Busch pointed him to get higher and he then followed the veteran.

The first would be running the [Truck Series] at Homestead in 2012. I thought I was running the top, and Kyle caught me and passed me and pointing up for me to get higher. Really taught me how to run the wall I felt like there, from following him. That was a cool memory, just being a nobody at that point…They’re all of me losing to him.

Kyle Larson said in a video shared on X by HMS.

Chase Elliott, the teammate of Kyle Larson at HMS, also shared his fondest memory of Kyle Busch. He recalled their outing together in the Late Model race at Berlin, Michigan when he was just 14 years old. They had a great battle for the win and losing that even taught him what it takes to be a legendary racer.

I raced against him in Berlin, Michigan a long time ago. One of my first super late model races I ran. I just thought it was really cool. He was coming down and racing a lot of those shows. I was probably 14-ish, and to have a chance to race against a guy who was dominant on Sundays. He and I had a great battle for the win. He got the upper-hand, but it was a lot of great lessons for me.

Chase Elliott pointed out.

Kyle Larson gets emotional about overwhelming support from HMS in Sprint racing

In the NASCAR media session ahead of this weekend’s race at New Hampshire Motor Speedway, Larson talked about the significant support he gets from HMS for his sprint car outings like Knoxville Nationals. They put-in so much effort into making his schedule open for the mid-week exploration despite the fact that he is having 48-year winless streak in the top-tier.

It’s just really awesome that they support me in my dirt racing to this sort of magnitude. Hendrick Motorsports pays me to drive their Cup cars and I feel like any other race team would probably not care as much to the extent of updating their driver or organizing the fine details that bought me enough time to get there in time.

Kyle Larson said.

According to Larson only Spire Motorsports supporting Carson Hocevar is the driver-team relation that comes close to his relation with HMS. Everyone at HMS, from Rick Hendrick to Jeff Gordon are invested in his non-NASCAR explorations.

Spire with Hocevar and all the things he’s into might be the only other organization that comes close. But like, Cliff and Jeff Andres, Jeff Gordon, I even think Mr. Hendrick likes seeing me race the Sprint Car every now and then.

Kyle Larson added.

The comments from the veteran racer are on point and shows how the non-NASCAR wins is helping the driver to get momentum amidst his tough 48-race winless streak. It would be interesting to see how everything is going to playout for the star driver in the coming days.
