Plenty of talking points emerged from the Cleveland Browns’ second preseason friendly against the Buffalo Bills at Huntington Park Stadium. Shedeur Sanders threw his second interception and first touchdown of the year, while his teammate Deshaun Watson completed 5 passes for 36 yards and also turned the ball over once.
After Watson’s turn ended, he was met with a roar of boos from the Browns fans who filled the bleachers. After the game, reporters asked Sanders what he thought about the fan reaction to Watson’s performance.
I don’t appreciate that at all. Regardless of competition, we’re all human beings. I think we all need to understand that. In this room too, we’re all humans.

Watson experienced a similar atmosphere in 2024. The Pro Bowl signal-caller was mercilessly booed by the Browns fans on the day he tore his Achilles. It ruled him out for the rest of the year.

The Browns invested a lot of capital and draft picks to bring Watson to Cleveland even though he was dealing with multiple sexual assault lawsuits. Only wins could have helped him gain some rapport with the fans. Unfortunately, in the next three years, Watson went 9-10 before getting bombarded with Achilles injuries. He stayed away from football for more than twenty months, and by the time he returned, the Browns had added his potential future replacement to the roster, Shedeur Sanders.
Shedeur Sanders capped off the Bills game with mixed bag stats
It was a tale of two quarters for Sanders on Saturday. Head coach Todd Monken handed Sanders the ball in the first quarter, possibly to save Watson from the fans’ ire. Sanders helped the Browns score a touchdown on the opening drive.

He converted a fourth-and-2 with a 16-yard pass completion to UDFA TE Blake Whiteheart. Sanders then hit former Kent State WR Luke Floriea for a TD pass inside the red zone.
Sanders continued his impressive run in the Browns’ third play of the game. He completed consecutive passes to rookie TE Carsen Ryan and then Floriea for a 23-yard completion four plays later.

I’m proud of the way we started the game. Second week in a row, I felt like we started well on both sides of the ball. We didn’t do a great job finishing our third drive, ended up with a turnover.
Todd Monken said via the Browns’ official transcript
As Monken highlighted, the drive ended with an interception from Sanders. His intended pass was a little behind the intended receiver, TE Jermaine Terry. The ball ricocheted off Terry’s gloves and into the palms of Bills safety Damar Hamlin.

2025 third-round pick Dillon Gabriel took the final few snaps until the final whistle. The game ended in a 31-7 defeat for the Browns. They finish out the preseason by hosting last year’s Super Bowl finalists, the New England Patriots.
