Tom Brady raised more than a few eyebrows by saying he did not have “a dog in the fight” ahead of Super Bowl 60 between the New England Patriots and the Seattle Seahawks. Nearly seven months have passed since then, but Patriots fans still haven’t forgotten the sting given by one of their greatest sons.

They literally erected a statue in Brady’s honor outside of Gillette Stadium last year, and the same Brady refused to show support for them against Seattle.

The Patriots’ offensive coordinator, Josh McDaniels was recently asked how he felt about Brady’s comments. McDaniels gave Brady a taste of his own medicine.

I wouldn’t have a dog in that fight, if that was the case.

In a February episode of the Let’s Go! Podcast, Brady made it clear that he wasn’t rooting for one particular team to win the Super Bowl.

I don’t have a dig in the fight in this one. May the best team win. And in terms of the Patriots, this is a new chapter in New England, and I’m glad everyone’s embraced the Mike Vrabel regime.

Fans and former Patriots players weren’t pleased with Brady’s answer. Although retired tight end Rob Gronkowski defended his former quarterback, fans did not let the 49-year-old off the hook.

Brady and McDaniels won six Super Bowls together in twenty years in New England. McDaniels returned to the Patriots last year to assume his old position under Mike Vrabel‘s management.

The Patriots won the AFC East and defeated the Chargers, Texans, and the Broncos in the playoffs to advance to their first Super Bowl of the post-Brady era. Unfortunately, they lost to the NFC champions, the Seattle Seahawks.

A little while later, Seahawks head coach Mike Macdonald revealed he took advice from someone experienced in winning Super Bowls. Macdonald did not take any names, but fans were quick to point fingers at Brady.

McDaniels responded when asked if he’d be bothered if Brady helped the Seahawks.

I don’t know what that would or wouldn’t have done… I’m sure when you play in that game, there’s two weeks before the game happens. There’s so much that can be taken in in terms of information and background…What we do and how we do it is really gonna end up being the ultimate determiner of whether or not we win or lose.

Patriots linebacker reacted to Tom Brady’s Super Bowl remarks

Veteran linebacker Robert Spillane signed with the Patriots in 2025 after a couple of impressive seasons with the Raiders, racking up 306 combined tackles and 5.5 sacks in 34 games. Spillane made his first career Super Bowl appearance against the Seahawks but with a heavy heart. The 30-year-old felt irritated after hearing Tom Brady decline to back his former team to win the championship.

[Tom Brady’s words] irritated me, and it made me feel sad for him… Spending 20 years here, obviously, went on to do amazing, great things, not only on the football field but in the community, and to say that he had no care in the world, it irritated me.

Spillane said on WEEI

Brady retired from football in 2023. Shortly after, he appealed to become a minority stakeholder in the Raiders. The NFL approved Brady’s request before the 2025 season. Brady also signed a 10-year, $375 million contract with FOX Sports as its leading color analyst.
