The Miami Heat are looking stronger than they have been in recent years after acquiring Giannis Antetokounmpo and Klay Thompson this summer. They are in strong contention to compete for the championship next season.

After their NBA Finals run in 2023, the Heat were eliminated in the first round of the playoffs in 2024 and 2025. They missed the playoffs last season after finishing at 10th place in the Eastern Conference standings and losing to the Charlotte Hornets in the Play-In Tournament.

After three disappointing seasons, the Heat front office moved quickly to make major roster changes this offseason. The hype and expectations surrounding the organization are high after their recent moves.

In the Heat’s official YouTube video covering Thompson’s arrival, the four-time champion was filmed asking the following question while working out in the Heat’s practice facility.

What’s the Miami Heat single season 3PT record?

After trading for Antetokounmpo from the Milwaukee Bucks in one of the biggest moves of the offseason, the Heat were expected to make major changes to their roster as they build around their frontcourt duo of Antetokounmpo and Bam Adebayo.

The plan was to surround them with sharpshooters, and they signed one of the best ever, Thompson. Thompson’s arrival has brought a growing sense of optimism and excitement heading into next season.

Thompson is undoubtedly one of the greatest shooters of all time. Alongside Stephen Curry, the backcourt duo changed the NBA forever with their three-point shooting prowess. It looks like he plans to do the same in Miami and is already eyeing the franchise’s single-season three-point record.

Can Klay Thompson break the Miami Heat’s single-season three-point record?

The 36-year-old has been excited and raring to go ever since he landed in Miami after his signing. When reports emerged that the Dallas Mavericks were looking to part ways with the veteran, the Heat were one of the first teams to show interest in signing him.

After a disappointing stint with the Mavs, Thompson bought out his Mavs contract and signed a two-year contract with the Heat as a free agent. He’s expected to have a bigger role in Miami than he did in Dallas.

The Heat’s single-season three-point record was set by Duncan Robinson. He made 270 three-pointers in the 2019-20 season. Thompson will have his eyes locked on the record as he has crossed the 250-mark four times in his career. However, he last did it in his final season with the Golden State Warriors two years ago.

He made 202 three-pointers in 69 games for the Mavs last season. It is an impressive number considering he came off the bench in 61 of those 69 appearances. If Thompson has a featured role as a perimeter option playing off Antetokounmpo, he should be able to break Robinson’s record in his debut season.

Klay Thompson feels his time in Miami is going to be special

Klay Thompson has completed 13 seasons in the NBA. While he is well past his prime years, he did show glimpses of his greatness last season. Thompson brings in some much-needed veteran experience to the locker room and will play a crucial role during the playoffs next year.

As he met up with the Heat’s staff during his arrival at the training facility, Thompson revealed that the excitement heading into the 2026-27 campaign is sky-high.

They built such a well-rounded roster. I saw myself fit seamlessly because I can shoot the ball so well and they’re very demanding of their fitness. That got me really intrigued to be here because it’ll just help my game so much. I can’t wait to see all of us on the floor together. I feel so inspired. It’s going to be really special.
