Ex-NASCAR Cup Series champion Kevin Harvick irked Ross Chastain with his most recent comments about Trackhouse Racing’s future driver line-up. Justin Marks’ team is going through some big changes with Connor Zilisch set to leave the team at the end of 2027 and Shane van Gisbergen being their best racer, amidst the recent struggles.

On the SPEED with Harvick and Buxton podcast, the 2014 Cup champion highlighted that Chastain’s future in the No:1 Chevy is question marks considering the changes going on in the team and him no longer being the best driver at the team. SVG has become the more marketable face in the sport, over the Florida born racer.

Well, here’s the unique part about SVG. Obviously, he’s locked in at Trackhouse next year. Connor Zilisch is leaving. You know, I think that puts the Ross Chastain situation in question as far as whether he stays or goes at Trackhouse. I think that SVG being the best-performing car at Trackhouse this year, you have to think about it from a different standpoint. SVG is probably the most marketable car at Trackhouse.

Kevin Harvick said.

The comments from the former champion Kevin Harvick got the attention of Ross Chastain and he had bold response when asked about it ahead of the Darlington Cup Series race. He didn’t hesitate to show his frustration and asserted that there is long way to go before discussing his future while also admitting that people will still talk about it.

That’s a long way away. So yeah, it’s the way our sport goes; people are gonna start talking about it.

Ross Chastain responded to Harvick, as reported by On3.com.

Further talking about the point, the Trackhouse Racing driver asserted that since retiring and becoming a broadcaster/podcaster Harvick has become one of the many in motorsports media space that talks too much. He insisted that his Trackhouse future isn’t something he is concerned about at the moment.

And that’s why Kevin’s on a podcast; he wants to do that kind of stuff. He got out of the driver’s seat and decided he wanted to talk as much now as he ever has. So yeah, right now, that’s for everybody else to talk about. We’re focused right here on the one car here at Darlington.

Ross Chastain added.

Shane van Gisbergen right now is a bigger star than Ross Chastain

In the podcast that started the whole controversy, Harvick explained that horsepower advantage SVG had on his side. At the moment he is amore valuable asset to Justin Marks on and off the track. This offers the Kiwi better future prospects over Chastain.

There’s a lot of horsepower behind SVG from a sponsorship side, from a marketing side, a following side. Really valuable from a driver standpoint, not just from on-track performance, but as you know, the off-race track stuff can be just as important as everything else when it comes to dollars and cents from a marketing standpoint to be able to make these cars go around the racetrack.

Kevin Harvick said on his podcast.

A couple of years ago, the whole market was behind Chastain and saw him as the next big superstar. He had the same momentum Carson Hocevar has now, but couldn’t build on it for the future. One main reason was him no longer using his aggressive racing style to his advantage.
