Even though they have stated several times that they are not direct rivals, there is no doubt that the world, and even the WNBA, pits Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese against each other on every occasion.
From comparisons to their college careers, to how they are performing in the WNBA, to whether their popularity is better than the other, such discussions dominate social media, which is another reason the league enjoys the fallout from it.
The two, along with Paige Bueckers, have been trailblazers in how they have helped the league grow at an unprecedented rate, enough for their peers to earn million-dollar salaries this season.
Clark and Reese have also helped network partners garner the most ratings whenever they battle. Those numbers are usually higher than what Clark and Bueckers garner.
That goes on to confirm that the viewing audience does see the Fever and Dream star as rivals. Now, when they play together for Team USA, those fans try to continue those comparisons. The most recent example was when Reese outplayed Clark against Italy.
That trend continued into their final group game against Czechia, where the forward registered 13 points, six rebounds, and three steals, whereas the point guard managed ‘just’ nine points and seven assists.

However, what did unite those fans was when Angel Reese scored off a Caitlin Clark dime late in the game. The play showcased both of their best abilities: dribbling around defenders, finding the open teammate, and finishing efficiently.
Fans react to Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese’s connection
Fans have watched Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese collaborate at the FIBA World Cup Qualifiers in Puerto Rico earlier this season. At the time, they felt that these two rivals coming together for the same goal was the beauty of competition.
Then, for them to resume their rivalry and alleged ‘jealousy’ towards one another back in the WNBA cements the fact that the two 24-year-olds know how to switch up and refocus.
Now, for them to work together again, despite knowing that they might be facing each other in the playoffs in a month, left fans reacting with nothing but respect. Check out examples of those reactions below.
This is poetry!

i mean just so we're being clear, if these two were on the same team it would be absolute domination. it would probably be very beneficial for the league as well for a lot of different reasons. interesting.

Imagine this. Everyone always wants to put them against each other. That awkward moment when they take over the league as teammates? That’d be cool to see.

Pass so good even Angel makes the layup look effortless

It’s crazy how much chemistry they have compared to how much people want them to hate each other 🫠

Look what can be accomplished when they put their differences aside.

If Angel and Caitlin can work together, they would be unstoppable.

Much is made of Angel Reese’s alleged ‘hatred’ towards Caitlin Clark and their rivalry. But these instances, and the laughter the former shared with her international teammate after the Italy game, indicate that when needed, they can be good teammates.
Angel Reese and Caitlin Clark combine to help Sonia Citron get an easy score
This layup was not the only instance Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese played as teammates. Several times, the latter and her point guard would briefly go over what play to execute next before dribbling down towards their opponents’ end.

Midway through the game, with Team USA still firmly in the lead, head coach Kara Lawson made sure to keep the Young N Turnts on the floor. For the Americans to keep their gold medal, the younger players have to build chemistry before facing the likes of a united France, Belgium, or even Australia.
Clark re-established her connection with Rhyne Howard in Game 1. This time, she had to get in sync with her ‘twin,’ Sonia Citron. The Washington Mystics forward has not produced much in the past two games.
When the going gets tough, Team USA will need everyone to contribute, and both Reese and Clark helped their younger teammate get some easy buckets.

One instance shows Reese slinging the ball out to the Fever star, who then swings it to Citron. The latter then just makes a defender miss and elevates for an easy score. Team USA will need many such moments to win gold.
