The early signs showed a huge potential for Jonathan Kuminga in the NBA. He was drafted by the Golden State Warriors as the seventh pick in the 2021 NBA draft, and in his first season he lifted the championship.

While he did not play much of a big role in their championship run, the youngster was able to share the court and learn from the likes of Stephen Curry and Draymond Green. Kuminga was expected to carry the franchise forward in the post-Curry era.

Unfortunately, things did not work out as planned and Kuminga was moved to the Atlanta Hawks at the trade deadline this year. But just half a season later, he finds himself with the Minnesota Timberwolves.

When asked about sharing the court with LaMelo Ball, Kuminga heaped praised on him and claimed that Ball’s passing ability was superior to any floor general he played with in his career.

I was watching him work out yesterday. I was watching him doing certain things, and just the way he passed the ball, it’s incredible. I’ve played with so many point guards in my career, but I’ve never played with someone that can pass as good as LaMelo.

Just like Kuminga, Ball was also traded to the Wolves this summer. The move has generated a lot of excitement among the Wolves fanbase as they look to win their first ever championship.

Kuminga’s move to the Wolves is an interesting one. His career looked stagnant after an impressive third season with the Warriors.

While many believe that Warriors head coach, Steve Kerr, was responsible for Kuminga’s decline, his latest move will certainly rejuvenate his career as he plays for a team with championship aspirations.

Fans react to Jonathan Kuminga calling LaMelo Ball the best passer he has ever played with

During his time with the Dubs, Kuminga played with two of the best point guards to ever play the game. He played alongside Curry for four and a half seasons, and also played one season with Chris Paul.

There is no doubt that LaMelo Ball is an excellent passer of the ball. However, Kuminga calling him the best passer he has played with was enough to generate a lot of reaction across social media.

Fans were left stunned as Kuminga had Ball ahead of Curry and Paul in terms of passing ability. It is possible that the 23-year-old is just excited to play alongside Ball or maybe it was a subtle shot at the two all-time greats.

What can LaMelo Ball and Jonathan Kuminga bring to the Wolves?

There is no doubt that Anthony Edwards is the face of the franchise. With Edwards very much in his prime, the Wolves front office have surrounded him with players to get the best out of him.

After acquiring Ball and Jonathan Kuminga, Wolves President Tim Connelly was asked what will the two new players bring to the team next season.

Jonathan, in a league of elite athletes, he’s as elite as it gets. He instantly becomes one of our best cutters. And LaMelo is one of the best playmakers in the league. So I think when you combine his ability to get open and his well-timed cuts, and certainly in transition there’s not many players better than Jonathan in our league. I think they could really help each other.

Tim Connelly said in his press conference

The Wolves reached the Western Conference Finals in 2024 and 2025. However, they didn’t progress to the finals. San Antonio Spurs defeated them in the second round this year.

Hence, it is not surprising to see the Wolves make some big changes in the summer. With Ball running the show and Kuminga serving as a do-it-all, athletic wing, the Wolves are bound to watch plenty of highlight-reel connections from the two.
