Giannis Antetokounmpo is starting a new life with the Miami Heat. Drafted by the Milwaukee Bucks as the 15th pick in the 2013 NBA draft, Antetokounmpo has established himself as one of the best players in the league in the past decade.

Similarly, Klay Thompson is another new acquisition for the Heat this summer. Just like Antetokounmpo, Thompson is also getting to know his new team and teammates.

The two former champions are in different phases in their respective careers. Antetokounmpo won the championship with the Bucks in 2021 and is still in the prime of his career. Meanwhile, Thompson is a four-time champion and is embarking on a new journey after a two-year spell with the Dallas Mavericks.

The Greek star shared photos on his social media of himself and Heat players on a boat. He captioned it:

After a difficult end to their 2025-26 campaign as they missed the playoffs, the Heat wasted no time in the summer and traded for Antetokounmpo in a blockbuster trade. After acquiring the Greek Freak, the Heat were expected to make more roster changes.

The Heat front office was in the market for some sharpshooters as they looked to build their team around their frontcourt duo of Antetokounmpo and Bam Adebayo. They ended up signing one of the greatest shooters of all time, Klay Thompson.

Thompson joined the Heat after a rough spell with the Mavs. During his stint in Dallas, they failed to make the playoffs in both years. With Thompson looking to contend for a championship at this stage of his career, his signing has generated a lot of buzz and excitement in the Heat fanbase.

Thompson is well known for his love for boats. He took the opportunity to invite Antetokounmpo and his new teammates to spend time on the open water in his boat. Being in Miami is perfect for Thompson and his love for boats.

Antetokounmpo has already formed a relationship with Adebayo after joining the team. Meanwhile, Thompson has shared the locker room with Andrew Wiggins. The two won a championship together for the Golden State Warriors in 2022.

The boat get-together was a good idea to build team chemistry. It is very similar to Luka Doncic hosting his Los Angeles Lakers teammates in Slovenia for a four-day training camp.

Antetokounmpo is already getting comfortable in his new environment, as he bought a home in Miami for $13.5 million a few days ago. With the new season getting underway next month, the expectations surrounding the franchise is very high as they look to contend for the championship next year.

Channing Frye takes aim at Giannis Antetokounmpo and compares him to Joel Embiid

When fit and healthy, it is hard to argue against Giannis Antetokounmpo being a top five player in the league. However, since lifting the championship in 2021, he has failed to make any deep postseason run. Injuries have been one of the main reasons for his struggles in the last few years.

Former NBA champion Channing Frye argued that Antetokounmpo cannot adapt as easily and lacks a similar skill set as compared to someone like Joel Embiid.

Giannis is a 7’0 running back. He’s just coming at you. If his ankle, knee, hip, shoulder, are injured, he can’t play his style. He does not have the skillset. Meaning shooting, middys, post ups, 3s, to balance that out like Joel Embiid does. Joel when he’s injured, he can just shoot fadeaway and still get 30 PPG. Giannis doesn’t have that skillset because of his physicality.

Antetokounmpo was restricted to just 36 appearances last season but he did average 27.6 points, 9.8 rebounds and 5.4 assists. After leading the Bucks to their first title in 50 years, the 31-year-old will be expected to do the same in Miami.
