LeSean McCoy made serious allegations against Deshaun Watson following an underwhelming outing for the Cleveland Browns on Sunday. McCoy believes Watson intentionally played poorly.

Watson led the Browns against the Jaguars in Jacksonville. In the game, Watson turned the ball over twice, took 5 sacks, failed to score a point in the first half, and threw just one touchdown pass in an abysmal first outing in more than 650 days.

McCoy criticized Watson on Speakeasy. The Super Bowl winner argued that Watson may have intentionally played poorly.

Listen, I ain’t trying to start this but Deshaun Watson needs to be under investigation for ‘point shaving’.

McCoy mentioned former Miami Heat star Terry Rozier’s infamous ‘point-shaving’ scandal. In a 2023 game between the Hornets and the New Orleans Pelicans, Rozier, who played for the Hornets back then, picked up a foot injury and left early. Following a police investigation, Rozier was accused of taking a bribe to fake the injury, allowing his associates to win more than $200,000 on prop bets wagering that the 32-year-old would fall short of his normal statistics.

Prosecutors allege Rozier initially agreed to a $100,000 bribe, which was later reduced to $70,000 because his extra rebounds caused a few bets to lose. Police arrested Rozier in October 2025, and faced a superseding indictment in May 2026 for sports bribery and wire fraud conspiracy. He pleaded not guilty in court. The Heat released him in April 2026.

[Whatever’s] happening in basketball is happening in football… You think he [Watson] rich? He’s richer… Check with the bookie near you, Deshaun Watson’s on the loose… It’s the way we watching you play the game, what do you want me to say about that.

The Jaguars outdueled the Browns in nearly every metric. The Jags had 360 total yards compared to the Browns’ 272. The Jags earned 23 first downs to the Browns’ 14. Even on defense, the Jaguars completed 31 tackles, eight more than the Browns.

Todd Monken gives his verdict on Deshaun Watson’s performance

The Browns appointed Todd Monken as head coach in the offseason. Despite alluding to his fondness for second-year signal caller Shedeur Sanders, Monken launched a quarterback battle between Sanders and veteran Watson. Monken waited until the preseason to decide his starting quarterback.

In the second preseason game, the Browns lost by 24 points to the Buffalo Bills. Watson went 5 of 12 for 36 yards, while hearing boos from Browns fans. He called out the fans post-game, which created a mess. However, Monken clarified that Watson’s words would not affect his decision on selecting Cleveland’s next QB1. Sure enough, he picked Watson over Sanders.

Experts argued that Monken had little say in the decision. The order could have come from the owners, who want to get the best value out of Watson’s five-year, $230 million contract, which is set to end after the 2026 season.

Watson started in Jacksonville and contributed just one touchdown pass in four quarters. Despite the outing, Monken could remain the starter in Week 2 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. This is what Monken said when reporters asked him about Watson’s future as QB1.

We’ll analyze everything that we do. It’s not just him. We’re putting this on Deshaun, which is unfair. And whatever there is externally doesn’t matter to me. That doesn’t affect me. That has nothing to do with my decision-making. My decision-making is what’s best for the Browns now and moving forward. That doesn’t mean that I don’t understand the frustration. I’ve said that since I’ve been here. Same with me. I didn’t take this job to lose.

Watson gave a muted answer when reporters asked him about his performance on his return to NFL football.

Of course everyone is going to look at the quarterback in this situation. Overall, I haven’t even looked at the box score or stats, but yeah, we have to put points on the board, and that’s what you have to do in this league.

The Browns gave the Houston Texans six draft picks, including three first-rounders, in 2022 in exchange for Deshaun Watson, who did not play at all the previous year. With just one year left in his contract, the Browns have chosen to gamble on him instead of letting the younger Sanders develop through real game-day experience.
