Marvin Harrison Jr. was the crown jewel of the Ohio State Buckeyes. He was projected to have an impact like his father, Hall of Famer Marvin Harrison Sr. But 31 games later, Harrison Jr. is close to becoming a bust.
The numbers don’t match the hype or the fourth-overall draft selection. Naturally, he has faced criticism from fans and the media. But Harrison isn’t ready to let the outside noise shape his approach.
Speaking from inside the Arizona Cardinals locker room, Harrison addressed the criticism. He said:
I see everything… [But] Everyone is entitled to their own opinions. You get platforms to speak your mind, and that’s okay for me. I’m just gonna continue to worry about my team and my process and helping the team win best I can.

Harrison’s response comes after the Cardinals’ Week 2 fixture against rivals the Seattle Seahawks. Harrison finished with zero catches in four quarters. Even in the Cardinals’ opening-day victory over the Los Angeles Chargers, Harrison had just 1 catch for 33 yards.
Harrison pointed to several factors behind his limited production. He noted that the right coverage, protection, route, pass, and read must align for a deep play to succeed. The positive part of Harrison’s demeanor is his attitude. Despite the criticism, he is working hard to improve his game.
Marvin Harrison Jr. gets support from his quarterback
The Cardinals appointed Mike LaFleur as head coach to fix the offense. LaFleur’s influence was all across the field during the first two game days. But he has yet to elevate Harrison Jr.’s game.

But Harrison Jr. is not the only receiver who has underperformed. Michael Wilson, who signed a contract extension after posting a 1006 yards and 7 touchdowns on 78 receptions in 2025. He has caught 7 passes for 74 yards and scored zero touchdowns in two games this season.
When reporters asked quarterback Jacoby Brissett about Harrison’s struggles, the veteran signal caller introduced Wilson into the conversation. Brissett said, according to PHNX Cardinals:
Is some of the noise justified? I don’t think so, personally. I mean, we just signed Mike [Wilson] for 25 and nobody said anything about him having two catches … It’s just like I think people place, you’ve got to try to find somewhere to make something out of nothing. And the only thing you can do is just go out there and just continue to get better as a teammate of him and him as an individual.

Tight end Trey McBride has benefited from defenses marking both Harrison and Wilson. The second-highest-paid tight end has caught 17 passes on 23 targets for 136 yards and scored 2 touchdowns.
The Cardinals are on the road in Week 3. They play rivals, the San Francisco 49ers. Harrison has played 3 games against the Niners. He has caught 10 passes for 143 yards and scored 1 touchdown. The 49ers lead the series with a 38-31 all-time record. The 49ers won both games last year.
