Davante Adams continues to prove age is just a number and class is permanent. With Puka Nacua missing the Week 2 fixture against the New York Giants, Adams started as the Los Angeles Rams main receiver and showed that they can rely on him when required.
The Rams desperately looked to bounce back after a disappointing show in Australia. Adams played his usual role as the slot receiver, with Nacua dropping back to help quarterback Matthew Stafford on YAC. Nacua caught 5 for 74 yards while Adams had 3 for 26 yards. The Rams only scored 7 points.
Before Monday’s big showdown at Inglewood, the Rams ruled Nacua out with a hip injury. Adams took full advantage of the opportunity. The 33-year-old caught 8 passes for 19 yards (24.4 yards per catch) and scored 2 touchdowns. It was only the second time since donning the Rams colors that Adams crossed 100 yards in a game.
But he has scored more than one touchdown in multiple games. He scored three touchdowns against the Jacksonville Jaguars and scored two touchdowns against three NFC South opponents (the New Orleans Saints, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and the Carolina Panthers).
Adams has now scored two touchdowns in 29 games across his NFL career. He is now level with Hall of Famers Cris Carter and Marvin Harrison Sr. Only three icons are ahead of him on that list: Terrell Owens (32), Randy Moss (36), and Jerry Rice (44).

Davante Adams is on a Hall of Fame trajectory
The Giants game was just a glimpse of Adams as an elite receiver. Stafford targeted Adams 10 times (six fewer than other players combined). Adams caught 8 passes, two of them touchdowns.

Adams alone had more yards (195) than the entire Giants team combined (182). It marked Adams’ 51st game with 100 or more yards. He’s tied at 10th with Antonio Brown and Don Maynard. Realistically, he can catch up with Hall of Famer Larry Fitzgerald (54) if Sean McVay gives him more load in the upcoming games.

Sharing snaps with Nacua, he hasn’t had chances to stat-peddle too much. And yet, he led the league last year with 14 touchdowns and finished as the best red zone threat, ahead of Seattle’s Jaxon Smith-Njigba, the Cowboys George Pickens, and, of course, Nacua.
Adams is playing the final year of his two-year, $44 million deal with the Rams. In his debut campaign, he caught 60 passes for 789 yards and 14 touchdowns on 14 starts. After two games in 2026, he has accumulated 11 catches for 221 yards and 2 touchdowns.
Rams honor Davante Adams
It’s always great to get the first win in the bag. The trip down under didn’t go as planned, so the victory over the Giants will feel a lot better for Sean McVay and his Rams.
McVay made sure to thank the team after the final whistle. Rams official Twitter account posted a clip of McVay congratulating the offense, Stafford, DB Trent McDuffie, and the defense on a great game. But the game ball went to Davante Adams.
I thought the offensive line protection was outstanding all night. This allowed this guy do his thing for eight catches 195 [yards] [and] two touchdowns… Davante Adams.

It’s unclear when Nacua will be cleared to start again; until then, Adams is likely to continue as Stafford’s number one target. Next week, they face the Denver Broncos, who are 1-1 after defeating the Jaguars.
