Aaron Rodgers has held a stellar record in Thursday Night NFL games. The Pittsburgh Steelers also boast a winning record, except when facing divisional opponents. They have never won a TNF road game against a rival team. Rodgers came closest to giving the Steelers their first win on October 1.
The Steelers trailed by six points with under four minutes left on the clock. Rodgers led a 77-yard drive and connected with tight end Pat Freiermuth for a three-yard touchdown.
After throwing the completion, Rodgers turned to the Browns supporters and gestured the “I can’t hear you” celebration.

Aaron Rodgers’ last-gasp attempt to save the Steelers proved futile
Pittsburgh broke the deadlock, but the Browns scored three unanswered touchdowns in the second quarter. Pittsburgh kicker Chris Boswell missed and scored one field goal in the second quarter.

After halftime, the Steelers struck first. Rodgers found Darnell Washington for a score. Pittsburgh leveled the score inside the two-minute drill. Rodgers converted on the two-point try, setting up a grandstand finish.
Cleveland quarterback Deshaun Watson only took about twenty seconds to set up a field goal try from 56 yards. Their kicker Andre Szmyt didn’t falter.
The Steelers now had just ten seconds to get into field goal range. Rodgers heaved one of his iconic deep passes. However, instead of finding a yellow and black jersey, the pass was intercepted by the Browns DB Grant Delpit.
Rodgers miscalculated the pass. Replays showed that he tried to find Roman Wilson, who was covered by three Browns players, while DK Metcalf was open on a post route.
The Steelers still had one timeout left. If Rodgers had picked Metcalf over Wilson, then McCarthy would have had the option to use the final timeout. The Steelers could have attempted a field goal. In the final moments, Watson took a knee, and the Browns won 27-24.
Unreal that Aaron Rodgers opted for Roman Wilson in triple coverage rather than hitting a wide-open DK Metcalf.

Aaron Rodgers finished with 22 completions for 299 yards, 3 touchdowns, and 2 interceptions. He also took 5 sacks. Metcalf caught 5 passes for 115 yards; Wilson caught 3 for 74 yards and scored one touchdown. Washington and Freiermuth scored one touchdown each.
As for the Browns, Deshaun Watson completed 24 passes for 268 yards, 1 touchdown, and one interception. Rookie Denzel Boston caught 4 passes for 89 yards while Harold Fannin Jr. added one more to his TD tally. The Browns improve to 3-1 while the Steelers are 2-2.
Former NFL linesman sends a clear message to Aaron Rodgers
Throughout the TNF night game at Huntington Bank Field, fans witnessed heated exchanges between Rodgers and Steelers head coach Mike McCarthy. In the first quarter, cameras caught Rodgers screaming at McCarthy to call plays. The veteran coach replied using foul language.
Retired offensive lineman Mitchell Schwartz tweeted that Rodgers should override McCarthy’s instructions and call plays by himself in such situations.
I still don’t get why Rodgers doesn’t just override McCarthy and call his own plays in certain situations.

These two butted heads once more before halftime. While returning to the dugout, Rodgers said something that brought out a blank look from McCarthy. Rodgers also directed his frustration at the receivers for not getting open.
During the postgame presser, McCarthy admitted to using profanity, but reminded everyone that it’s part of the game. Up next, the Steelers host the Indianapolis Colts at Acrisure Stadium. Meanwhile, the Browns head to the Big Apple to play the New York Jets.
