LeBron James has been in the NBA longer than any player in league history. Drafted as the number one pick in 2003, James has given the NBA world 23 years of sheer dominance and sustained excellence.

No player has carried the league on their shoulders like James has for two decades. He may be at the backend of his career, but recent events have shown that he is still the most followed player in the NBA.

Being the face of the league for so many years means that he is the most loved player as well. While he has his share of his critics, James commands a fan-following beyond any other NBA star since Kobe Bryant.

Following his move to the Philadelphia 76ers in the summer, it was reported that James would not live in the city. He will live in New York and commute back and forth to Philly via helicopter.

‘King James’ was seen leaving team practice in a helicopter which generated several reactions, including one from his new teammate, Tyrese Maxey.

However, some fans are afraid for him after seeing the parallels between James and the late Bryant. According to The Athletic writer, Jason Lloyd, fans are fearful of James having a tragic death involving a helicopter, just as the Los Angeles Lakers legend.

Kobe Bryant was in a helicopter with his 13-year-old daughter, Gianna, and seven others, headed to a basketball game. The aircraft flew into a hillside in Calabasas, and everyone aboard died. That’s what people felt this week when they heard the rotors. Not logic. Memory.

It is understandable for James to live in New York. He is a billionaire athlete who lives a luxurious lifestyle, and a city like Philly will not meet his demands like New York would.

The commute by road would take him roughly two hours and more if the traffic gets bad. Hence, taking the helicopter makes complete sense as the trip would cut short his journey to 45 minutes. The four-time NBA champion will save time and be able to focus on his recovery instead.

LeBron James commuting by helicopter is giving off bad Kobe Bryant vibes

Reports suggested that LeBron James will spend around $800k on his commute by helicopter during the season. While it may sound a lot for a player who will earn just $4 million per season, the King has earned hundreds of millions of dollars through his player contracts and reached billionaire status through his business ventures.

When James boarded his helicopter in Philly, several fans got flashbacks of Kobe Bryant and his tragic helicopter crash. However, helicopters fly safely every day across America. Based on U.S. Helicopter Safety Team, the fatality rate is 0.69 per 100,000 flight hours.

James’ helicopter trip brought back painful memories of Bryant and his demise in 2020.

Kobe Bryant was in a helicopter with his 13-year-old daughter, Gianna, and seven others, headed to a basketball game. The aircraft flew into a hillside in Calabasas, and everyone aboard died. A father. A daughter. A gym waiting at the end of the flight. Grown men had wept in parked cars that day. Fans piled flowers and jerseys and handwritten notes outside the arena.

Lloyd believes that there are fans who are silently afraid that James will suffer the same cruel fate as Bryant. It has been over six years since Bryant’s helicopter crash, but the painful memory lives till today.

Patrick Beverley sends warning to LeBron James over helicopter plans

LeBron James has traveled in helicopter several times. The data and statistics also show it is a safe mode of travel and James has the means to travel whenever he wants to.

However, Patrick Beverley sent a warning to his former Lakers teammate about landing the helicopter in Philly.

LeBron got a helicopter landing in Camden. Camden is not a place where they’re used to helicopters landing. But Bron be careful, cause Camden isn’t the greatest neighborhood. People gonna start throwing rocks at them helicopters, so be cool out there.

Patrick Beverley on The Pat Bev Show

Beverley spent half a season in Philly in 2023. While it is very unlikely that he would have traveled by helicopter often during his time there but he may know a thing or two about some of the areas. If James changes his landing spots for his helicopter, Beverly’s warning was well received.
