Several analysts, including former NFL tight end and FOX Sports contributor Rob Gronkowski, picked the Los Angeles Rams to play in Super Bowl 61 at Inglewood. Gronkowski’s opinion has now changed five games into the 2026 season.

The Rams are 2-3 and recently suffered a heartbreaking overtime loss to the Buffalo Bills. Head coach Sean McVay made a few key mistakes that put kicker Harrison Mevis on a pedestal.

Mevis missed a crucial field goal, which Buffalo capitalized and won. The Rams then released Mevis. However, Gronk believes the issue lies elsewhere.

The former Patriot and Buccaneer noted that the Rams have too many superstar players on their roster. As such, he felt they tend to leave responsibility to a teammate rather than taking the initiative.

I feel like a lot of players depend on the other player to make a play because it’s like, oh, that guy’s a superstar next to me, he can make the play on this third, and I really think that sometimes it does happen or it’s like it just doesn’t match…

Rob Gronkowski said on the Up & Adams Show

With reigning league MVP Matthew Stafford at quarterback, the Rams boast the best offense. They have All-Pro receivers Davante Adams and Puka Nacua, and Pro Bowl running back Kyren Williams taking care of the run game.

They rank first in points per game (30.0), total yards (397.0), yards per play (6.1), touchdowns per game (3.7), and passing yards per game (272.3).

The defense ranks third despite limited snaps played by Myles Garrett and Aaron Donald. However, Gronk argued that the defense isn’t playing “tough” football.

The Rams’ special teams are their Achilles’ heel. They are the worst in the league this season.

The Rams’ destiny is in their own hands

There are still 12 games left in the regular season, and the Rams can easily kick-start a winning streak that will propel them into the playoffs. It starts with a win over rivals, the 1-4 Arizona Cardinals.

Gronk believes the Rams must defeat the Cardinals to regain his trust.

That could be the spark right there. If they can’t take down the Cardinals… They are gonna beat the Cardinals, they have to beat the Cardinals. This is a must win for the Rams.

The Rams are a massive 12.5-point favorites against the Cardinals—Arizona Cardinals (+600), Los Angeles Rams (-900). The Rams have won the last three fixtures as well.

Stafford has a solid record against the NFC West franchise. He has a passer rating of 95.9 with 4,159 yards, 29 touchdowns, and 10 interceptions in 17 appearances (Detroit and LA).

On the final day of last season, Stafford threw 25 completions for 259 yards and 4 touchdowns in a 37-24 victory.

Despite the recent losses, oddsmakers still have faith in a Rams resurgence. Per ESPN analytics, the Rams boast the second-best odds (+700) to win Super Bowl 61 behind the 5-0 San Francisco 49ers (+680).

Which AFC team did Rob Gronkowski pick for Super Bowl 61?

Gronk chose the Rams to represent the NFC in the Super Bowl in February. For the AFC, he went with the Baltimore Ravens.

The Ravens got off to a 2-1 start with wins over the Colts and the Cowboys. In Week four, Lamar Jackson suffered an injury and was replaced by Tyler Huntley. The Pro Bowler led the AFC North franchise to a victory and last Sunday took down the Falcons in overtime.

They are one of four AFC teams with four wins so far (the Bills, the Chiefs, and the Jaguars are the other three). Both the Ravens and the Bills boast +800 odds (third best). The Ravens play the Browns in Week 6.
