There will be no three-peat of the World Series title this year. On Thursday, the Milwaukee Brewers completed their revenge on the Los Angeles Dodgers and knocked out the champions from the postseason with a 4-0 sweep in the National League Championship Series (NLCS).
The Dodgers, who won back-to-back titles in 2024 and 2025, were looking to become just the third team after the New York Yankees and the Athletics to win 3 or more successive titles.
In their quest for this, they came up against the Brewers in the NLCS once again. Last year, they completed a 4-0 sweep of the NL Central side and went on to beat the Toronto Blue Jays 5-4 in extra innings of Game 7 to repeat as champions.
This time the Brewers flipped the script. Victories in Games 1 and 2 in Milwaukee gave them a 2-0 series lead. On Wednesday, they were 2-1 down at the start of the 7th inning.
However, a 2-run go-ahead home run by Jake Bauers and a solo home run from Garett Mitchell put them in control once again. With the Brewers winning 6-2 in Game 3, the Dodgers were left with a huge task.
In Game 4, it seemed things were finally going their way as Shohei Ohtani smashed a 3-run home run in the 2nd inning to put his side up 4-0. This was his first home run since August 18.

The Brewers then came all the way back from down 4-0. Bauers’ ground-rule double in the 4th inning cut the deficit in half. A single from David Hamilton made it 4-3 in the 5th inning.
Tyler Glasnow was then replaced by Evan Phillips. The relief pitcher did not have the best of outings as the team first intentionally walked Brice Turang before he gave up a walk to William Contreras. Alex Vesia then came in to replace him.
With the bases loaded, Vesia ended up walking Bauers, which tied the game at 4-4. Christian Yelich later grounded out to end the inning. In the 6th inning, Mitchell completed the comeback with a solo home run against Tanner Scott.

Hamilton’s solo home run in the 9th inning against Edwin Diaz gave the Brewers some insurance runs. The Dodgers were just not able to capitalize on their opportunities and got swept.

Before the NLCS, Hall of Famer John Smoltz claimed that if a team wanted to beat the Dodgers, they had to go through their pitching rotation. The Brewers did just that and won against the likes of Tarik Skubal, Yoshinobu Yamamoto, Blake Snell, and Tyler Glasnow. They outscored the Dodgers 21-11 in the 4 game sweep.
Surprisingly, the Dodgers had the lead in all 4 games at one stage. They were, however, unable to maintain it and suffered their first postseason exit since they got swept by the Arizona Diamondbacks in the 2023 National League Division Series (NLDS).
Social media reacts to Dodgers losing against Brewers in NLCS
A year after sweeping the Milwaukee Brewers in the NLCS, the Los Angeles Dodgers got a taste of their own medicine as they got swept in the best-of-seven championship series. Their defeat sparked some wild reactions across social media.

In the past few years, the Dodgers have caught flak for their spending. Many have accused them of “ruining” baseball with their multi-million-dollar moves on free-agent signings.
As a result of this, many users on X wildly celebrated this Brewers win. One user wrote, “Baseball is saved,” while making fun of the LA-based side.
Check out that and some other reactions from X below:

The Brewers also became just the second team after the New York Yankees in 1923 to beat a team in the postseason that had swept them in the previous postseason. As for the Dodgers, this was just the second time they had been swept 4-0 in a best-of-seven postseason history. The previous one was in the 1966 World Series against the Baltimore Orioles.
With the Dodgers’ elimination, history will be made at the 2026 World Series
The Los Angeles Dodgers’ reign as MLB champions came to an end on Thursday with their 6-4 loss in Game 4. With their elimination, history will be made at the 2026 World Series.

For the Brewers, this is just their 2nd trip to the Fall Classic. In 1982, they reached the World Series as an American League team and lost 4-3 to the St. Louis Cardinals.
After 44 years, they are back in contention for the title. They will take on either the Tampa Bay Rays or the Cleveland Guardians, and this is where it gets interesting.
Like the Brewers, the Rays have never won the World Series title either. The Rays, who came into existence in 1998, have reached the World Series twice but lost on both occasions (2008 against the Philadelphia Phillies and 2020 against the Los Angeles Dodgers).
As for the Guardians, they haven’t won in ages. The Cleveland-based side last won in 1948 and is on a 78-year drought, the longest active in MLB history. They have reached the World Series 4 times since their last triumph but lost all 4 times (1954, 1995, 1997, and 2016).
So either there will be a first-time winner in the Brewers or the Rays, or a huge title drought will end at the 2026 World Series.
3 possible outcomes: @Brewers first title ever. @RaysBaseball first title ever. @CleGuardians first title since 1948. We’re about to witness @MLB history. @MLBNetwork

Speaking of the American League Championship Series (ALCS), the Guardians are up 2-1 after 3 games, as they won 3-2 in Game 3. The Brewers will now have to wait a bit to see who they go up against.
